Spoiler: show
I may bring Vidav's wife though :winky:

BTW, the "Clean Water Act" is, to me, a poster child example of the way in which we've lost our way in allowing the evolution of a system in which we have "professional" legislators who feel like they have to pass laws.

You're right genius, it's really just a minor problem blown out of proportion by the liberal media.
1.According to the Chinese Ministry of Health, industrial pollution has made cancer China’s leading cause of death.
2.Every year, ambient air pollution alone killed hundreds of thousands of citizens.
3.500 million people in China are without safe and clean drinking water.
4.Only 1% of the country’s 560 million city dwellers breathe air considered safe by the European Union, because all of its major cities are constantly covered in a "toxic gray shroud". Before and during the 2008 Summer Olympics, Beijing was "frantically searching for a magic formula, a meteorological deus ex machina, to clear its skies for the 2008 Olympics."
5.Lead poisoning or other types of local pollution continue to kill many Chinese children.
6.A large section of the ocean is without marine life because of massive algal blooms caused by the high nutrients in the water.
7.The pollution has spread internationally: sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides fall as acid rain on Seoul, South Korea, and Tokyo; and according to the Journal of Geophysical Research, the pollution even reaches Los Angeles in the USA.
8.The Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning in 2003 had an internal and unpublished report which estimated that 300,000 people die each year from ambient air pollution, mostly of heart disease and lung cancer.
9.Chinese environmental experts in 2005 issued another report, estimating that annual premature deaths attributable to outdoor air pollution were likely to reach 380,000 in 2010 and 550,000 in 2020.
10.A 2007 World Bank report conducted with China's national environmental agency found that "...outdoor air pollution was already causing 350,000 to 400,000 premature deaths a year. Indoor pollution contributed to the deaths of an additional 300,000 people, while 60,000 died from diarrhea, bladder and stomach cancer and other diseases that can be caused by water-borne pollution." World Bank officials said "China’s environmental agency insisted that the health statistics be removed from the published version of the report, citing the possible impact on 'social stability'".

You know it IS possible to avoid being like China while at the same time not having an agency that crawls up everybody's rectum to the extent that the EPA does.

I agree...but disbanding it completely certainly isn't the solution.

I don't think any rivers are going to catch fire because somebody makes a pond on their land.

The existence of the EPA, on balance, is a negative.
The EPA is a toothless lap dog that protects nothing. That's why you live in the nation's toilet, John. :coffee:

First let me say that from time to time I deal with NOAA Mussel Watch data as part of my job. Louisiana is a long way from being the most "contaminated" State. A very long way.

Otherwise, the EPA is why the national government can tell people in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, that they must have certain gasoline mixtures to (hopefully) impact ozone levels in Baton Rouge. The Federal government has no legitimate business getting involved in what the ozone levels on Baton Rouge are.

Also, the Federal government has no legitimate business getting involved in whether or not somebody in Ascension Parish fills in some property technically classified as a "wetland" in order to build a house on their own property.

All of this stuff is based on the Commerce Clause. And that's crap. The Constitution gives the Federal government the power to regulate commerce between the States. But Pandora's box was opened when the Supreme Court ruled that gives the Federal government the power to regulate anything that "affects" commerce between the States. It has given rise to essentially unlimited Federal power. There's no way the people that ratified the Constitution construed the Commerce Clause as giving the Federal government the power to do something like say a person can't bring fill material onto their own property to build a structure.

That kind of thing. It's completely out of control and the EPA has way too much power. We'd be better off without it. We really would.

The EPA ranks right up there with fire, the wheel, glass, remote control and internet porn.

The EPA keeps our air and water clean, if it weren't for them, we'd all live in Louisiana.

If you're worried about environmental pollution levels you really would be more worried about living in places like the Great Lakes region, or New Jersey, or New York. Los Angeles. Stuff like that.

But, regardless, we would be fine without the EPA. We really would. It's a totally unnecessary Federal Agency that does a whole lot more harm than good.

Oh I don't expect it to come true. Too deeply entrenched. Like the Federal government in general. Way more powerful and influencial than it was intended to be. I don't expect it to change.

But that doesn't mean it's not wrong.

It becomes more crucial to our survival every day. The haters should be forced to spend a year living in the filth that is Louisiana. Where people dump their trash alongside the roads. :ohno:

Man the disconnect he must experience trying put a veneer of science on his fundamentalist beliefs  ...... John is very similar to the boys on Stormfront trying to twist genetics around so that it "proves" the superiority of his race. And then the poor bastard wakes up today to news of the first proof of the inflationary period of the Big Bang. :ohno: Tough day for a fandamentalist science guy. Gonna need to let off some steam in church this weekend by rolling on the floor and speaking in tongues...

Does any government body have a legitimate reason to get involved in whether someone fills in property technically classified as a wetland? And if none does what happens if after a bunch of people do it, there's a big rainfall and serious flooding occurs? Who is responsible for the cleanup and damages? If my home floods because of bunch of idiots think they should be able to do whatever the heck they want on their own property regardless of what it might do to others' property shouldn't I be able to hold them responsible for the resulting damage?

I'll concede that the EPA has gotten too big, too inefficient and too nazi-like but it has an important role. Isn't' it more efficient and better for the economy to just prevent people from being idiots in the first place so that people and the government can focus resources on productive activities rather than cleanup?
Being wrong about a topic is called post partisanism - kalm

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

I would have said it myself, but I'm too busy being a smartass. Nice job. :thumb:
