The selection committee definitely didn't like the AAC. Champ Louisville is only a 4 seed and no SMU. I also think UConn deserved better than a 7 seed. I doubt if any of the AAC teams are happy about how things turned out.

Don't follow BB much but the bracket seems convoluted. If there's 68 teams, wouldn't it make more sense to just seed 4 brackets of #1-#17, with the opening round 4 #16 versus 4 #17 seeds?

There was talk about that but the way they got to the 68 is by adding more at-large bids. They didn't want to completely punish the finals teams who earned their bids by winning the conference to that former 15 and 16 seeded teams would play in the "play-in" first round game. The concession to increasing the bracket size was to have the 4 final seeds play each other and the 4 final at-large teams play each other for the right to get in the 64 bracket.
