Palin wasn't the only one...

Post by SuperHornet »

During the 2012 Presidential debates, President Obama snidely chided Candidate Romney that, "The 1980s are calling for their foreign policy back...uh...because the Cold War has been over for 20 years."

That's looking pretty stupid now, isn't it?

How do you think Romney or Palin would have stopped this? Which 1980's policies would they have used?

600-ship Navy, among other things. The prototypical Obamanian response to world crises (rekindling of the Cold War, Iran, North Korea, etc.) has been, "Let's shrink the military." We're going to get caught with our pants down one of these days because of that trash....

I'm not really sure you can compare the crisis in the Ukraine to the Cold War.

Let me know when humanity is in constant fear of nuclear annihilation and maybe we can talk...

From the article:

President Barack Obama has no good military options to pressure Russia to leave Ukrainian territory, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers said Sunday.

“There is not a lot of options on the table and, candidly, I’m a fairly hawkish guy, sending more naval forces to operate in the Black Sea is really not a very good idea, given that we know that that day has long passed,” the Michigan Republican said on “Fox News Sunday.” “And unless you’re intending to use them, I wouldn’t send them. Now you’ve got only economic options through the EU.”

I'm not sure that a larger navy is going to help in this case.

We haven't had even CLOSE to a 600 ship navy since 1990. We've been steadily shrinking the military since Bush I was president.

Agreed, this is not like the Cold War, it much more closely parallels Hitler's initial move into Czechoslovakia. Perhaps if the Ukraine had not given up its nuclear arsenal this might not have happened.

If we had a larger Navy, we could send over a RESTED Carrier Strike Group and Expeditionary Strike Group to defend the Ukraine from the Black Sea.

Um...have you not been paying attention? Red China has nukes, Iran probably does by now, and a rogue state with an unstable leader in North Korea DEFINITELY has them. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sovs haven't been hiding some from our inspectors, as well....

Also, Condi nailed it in 2008:
WASHINGTON—Following Russia's controversial military excursions into neighboring Georgia, the Bush administration made its most direct commitment to the U.S.'s Eastern European allies to date by "strongly advising" those countries not to border Russia under any circumstance. "The United States stands by its allies, but will not be able to defend our friends in the region if they continue to share geographical lines with Russia," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said at a Monday press conference. "We also recommend that those nations who may not border Russia but were once a part of the USSR immediately cease and desist from having had that history with the Soviet Union." Rice later pledged financial aid to the victims of devastating flooding in the West African nation of Togo, effective upon the country first meeting the stipulation of removing itself from under water.

I doubt if a RESTED Carrier Strike Group and Expeditionary Strike Group would be enough to deter Russia or defend Ukraine.

Besides, like Mike Rogers said, no use sending them over there unless you intend to use them; and I don't think this is worth going to war over.

First of all, I don't even know why you're scared of China.

And second, can Iran and North Korea destroy the world with nuclear weapons?

Military action isn't the answer here (or rarely). Our Navy is plenty big...especially if we weren't preoccupied with saving every half-assed country around the globe from their inevitable fate.

No. You're just another old-line Conk belly-achin' about spending money to help Spain patrol their coast, something WE want to do, but about which they could care less.
