You have an agenda and perpetuating the myth that there is something unique about the Catholic Church in how it handled these matters furthers that agenda. Frankly, society as a whole historically did an awful job protecting kids from sex abuse, but you all want to pretend that is not true, and that the Catholic Church had a unique problem.

Then again, more lies are told about the Catholic Church than any other institution on the face of the earth, which proves to me it is the true Church.
The church has a unique problem - the unfathomable sophistication and scope of the cover-up coupled with the extreme arrogance and callousness shown toward victims - mostly children raped by priests, the latter exemplified here on the board by you.

You've been conditioned since birth to revere an organization that you forced your children, perhaps your wife, into. It's obviously brought you much joy and existential comfort. Then it all starts imploding with nary a day going by without an embarrassing tale of evil against children or women. It's a tough thing to admit you were hoodwinked, especially by your religion and your parents.

I understand your defense, especially knowing you're an attorney - trained to poke holes in arguments, find an out to create reasonable doubt... It's obvious you struggle to understand the distinction between legal and ethical - really, your Achilles heel on this board, but it makes sense.

Your finger pointing among other ruses falls on deaf ears here.

I hope this board gives you a welcome respite from the embarrassing reality of your church, but I hope you're doing something positive to change it.

If it's the true church, shouldn't it have been able to rise above all of this?

We won't be silenced, but I agree the Church will continue. As the Church is dragged, now kicking and screaming, into the light of secular morality and critical ethical inquiry, it will survive. The current scandals aside, the Church is a much better organization and ironically closer to the values of Jesus Christ now. Not too long ago the Church was burning women and murdering people for non belief.

On behalf of the all the secular humanists, martyrs, scientists, women, minorities, atheists, deists, Martin Luther, philosophers who challenged your Church and made it better- YOU'RE WELCOME. :thumb:

Absolutely. The rate of abuse by Catholic clergy today is infinitesimally small. The Church has addressed the issue.

And if anti-Catholic bigots and devious personal injury lawyers still want to carry on about what happened 30 or 40 years ago -- and try to deceive people into believing that society as a whole was right on top of the issue, and what Catholic leaders did was something unique -- go knock yourselves out.

We never said we were better. That's YOU putting words in our mouth (for straw man purposes).

The Catholic Church has had many miscreants. But the Church itself is not defined by the acts of miscreants, no more than the US is defined by the actions of its miscreants.

Chicago Sun Times - Breaking News

A second former teacher at a Catholic high school on the South Side filed a lawsuit against the institution, claiming he was fired because he reported an alleged sexual assault involving students to the state.

Stephen Jennings alleges in a suit filed Friday in Cook County Circuit Court he was wrongfully terminated from Hales Franciscan High School at 4930 S. Cottage Grove Ave., nearly four months after female students notified him of alleged sexual assaults by male students.

The students came to Jennings weeks after former principal Erica Brownfield conducted a staff meeting in fall 2013 in which she told staff that a female student had possibly been sexually assaulted by male students, the lawsuit said.

She allegedly acknowledged her responsibility to report the incident to the state Department of Children and Family Services but said she was not going to do so, the suit says. She also instructed staff members to not speak to DCFS or report the incident, Jennings claims.

After speaking with the female students, Jennings reported the incident to DCFS. Jennings says after that, he was unfairly disciplined by Brownfield and former school president Jeffrey Gray.

The suit also claims Gray pushed Jennings, then fired him on the spot during a heated confrontation at the school on Feb. 21. Jennings called police to the incident, and signed a battery report, according to the lawsuit.

The four-count suit claims violation of the Illinois Whistleblower Act, retaliatory discharge, interference with prospective business advantage and battery. He seeks at least $150,000 in damages, backpay, reinstatement of an equally senior position and court costs.

The suit comes two months after another teacher, Rochelle Daniels, filed a suit claiming she was wrongfully terminated from Hales for reporting alleged student assaults to DCFS.

Officials at the school could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

Martin Luther?? Ever read his stuff. His was a vile anti-Semite and his writings fueled the beginning of the Holocaust in Protestant Germany.

The church though is defined by its dogma, canon law and most important - its history in action. All three continue to be black marks for the faithful and albatrosses for reformers.

You care.

You've been caught in the greatest fraud known to man.

Your futile efforts to deny this fact are entertaining.

Now that the catholic church is cleaning house and party clown work is drying up, what careers are child molesters turning to these days? I have two young sons and need to know what to steer clear of now that those two seem almost safe again.

I would say the catholic clergy is still the best place for child molesters. Catholic law specifically prohibits reporting acts of child sexual abuse to law enforcement. Practically every other profession (public school teachers and employees) that works with kids is required by superior secular law and morality to immediately report sexual abuse to the authorities.

You can still rape a child in the catholic church and stand a high chance of not receiving any punishment if you get caught. Play your cards right, and Tim Dolan (Joltin Joe's bishop) will give you $20,000! :thumb:
