Stock Market
Re: Stock Market
Hey, I'm happy to see the market go up since I have a shitload of money in it, but you gotta figure there will be a major correction at some point.
The funny part is seeing people speak as though they have an idea when it will happen. The only thing that's certain is that every day that goes by is a day closer to when it happens.

Re: Stock Market
Why would it happen? The stock market has almost detached itself from the actual economy and is almost a game anymore. Of course it's rise and health stand in contrast to the much more laggerdly economy, but I don't think they have to match up anymore.93henfan wrote:Hey, I'm happy to see the market go up since I have a shitload of money in it, but you gotta figure there will be a major correction at some point.

I'm not a financial advisor, but certainly, stock performance is tied at least to earnings, so in that respect the economy will drive the market.GannonFan wrote:Why would it happen? It'll be interesting to see what pressure the baby boomers put on the market when they start cashing out their 401Ks en masse. My parents are about two years away from mandatory withdrawals and they are the leading edge of boomers (dad born in '45). I think the regular investment in 401Ks and other retirement vehicles by our largest group of citizens has buoyed the markets somewhat.

Re: Stock Market
it won't be as big as you think - you have to remember 401(k)'s aren't that old. The amount of $$ boomers had in 401(k)'s isn't as much as the generations that have followed.93henfan wrote:

Just took your advice, bought 740 shares. Luckily that's only about $100. If that turns into $1000+, I'll buy you a steak dinner.Ibanez wrote:Nows a good time to get in. I suggest HEMP. As more and more states legalize weed, companies like HEMP will do better and better.

Stock performance is only tied to what people think - sure, earnings and performance affect how people think about a stock, but there are plenty of stocks out there that are performing well and above what their earnings say.93henfan wrote:I'm not a financial advisor, but certainly, stock performance is tied at least to earnings, so in that respect the economy will drive the market.GannonFan wrote:

And BHBK is right about the 401k's - baby boomers aren't the biggest chunk of the 401k market, they were late in the game in terms of getting in there. Our generation, who had 401k's as soon as we got out of college, will be a bigger piece of the pie, especially since millenials are sitting at home bemoaning not having jobs and therefore not having their own 401ks.

Re: Stock Market
It's a penny stock so be careful. I bought 750 shares at $.02 and sold at $.75. I still have some, even though it's doing shit. But you have to hedge your bets. If It tanks, then oh well, I'm out $15.GSUhooligan wrote:Just took your advice, bought 740 shares. Luckily that's only about $100. Re: Stock Market
If the boomers start selling out, I'll keep plowing away monthly just like usual. The market may take something of a beating, but I'll be scooping up bargains at the bottom to offset some of my losses. Stay the course, my friend.93henfan wrote: It'll be interesting to see what pressure the baby boomers put on the market when they start cashing out their 401Ks en masse. I bet you wish you'd bought 100,000 shares at $.02. Would have been $2,000 turned into $75,000.
I've always sort of wanted to mess around with penny stocks as a goof. Maybe I'll start.

Oh, I know. Some are sitting in fancy apartments paid for by their parents. There are multiple kinds.Ibanez wrote:Not all millennials are.GannonFan wrote:

I've only not stayed the course one time and that was when I got lucky and pulled completely out of stocks right before all the shit went down in 2008. I don't know why the Lord let the sun shine on my ass that day but it saved me a whole lot of money. Very, very fortunate market timing.ASUG8 wrote: Stay the course, my friend.

It was a little cloudy that day for me so I had to weather the storm. I did however increase my contribution % at/toward the bottom and snatched up some cheap stocks which have rebounded pretty nicely over the last few years.93henfan wrote:I've only not stayed the course one time and that was when I got lucky and pulled completely out of stocks right before all the shit went down in 2008.
