Why does one have to be in that business to actively do it? Shouldn't everyone be in the business of helping those that need it no matter what their 9-5 get paid for job is?Cap'n Cat wrote:Um, no, clenzy, I wouldnta spent time lambasting Z. I do what I can, when I can. I'm doing SOMETHING and not avoiding. I make a CONSCIOUS effort to seek out Native enterprises when I'm there. I do the same thing in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Rather disingenuous to target someone who DOES make an effort.
Regarding your "experiences" with this poor group or that, this thread is not a dick-measuring contest. I'm just telling you to get out and see South Dakota because you've obviously missed major parts of it and perpetuate the myth that it's somehow Somalia-in-America.
I am not in that field anymore cap, and haven't been for months. I left the field to go into a job that gave me more time with my family at a higher pay...yet I can still do just as much as I did when I was in that job. What are you doing this weekend that you were so busy that you couldn't go spend a couple hours at a shelter in the cities? I'm betting you didn't do that...and likely haven't done that for years - if ever.
Everything I listed above wasn't part of my paid job - that was shit I did as a volunteer other than the adjudicated youth.
You buy gas from native american owned gas stations but don't do anything on the reservations? I guess it's better than nothing....If that counts than I've done a lot of helping in WI, MN, and SD with the time, and money, I've spent in native run casinos.
I've driven though a vast majority of SD, I've spent time on 3 different reservations. I've been there and I've done that Cap.
SD has some very pretty scenery if that is all you want to talk about. So does every state in the nation. However, once you get past the initial scenery what do you see? SD is a state in pretty bad shape outside of a few cities.
I'm not avoiding anything either. You paint with a rather broad brush a lot of the time and no one calls you on it. When that does happen you are a pretty good at avoiding what you started.
