Mouse Davis Sizes Up His Offense In Spring Practice

The value of experience cannot be overrated. And who has more experience than Viking offensive coordinator Mouse Davis with more than 50 years of coaching football?

Davis offers the Viking football program his expertise, his Run-and-Shoot offense, and that valuable experience of a career in football. He is also thrilled with the experience on the field that he has back in 2009. That includes almost every skill position starter, and three starting linemen. The Vikings total eight returning starters on offense and 17 returning letterwinners.

"We have, for the first time, kids back who have an understanding (of the Run-and-Shoot). We are so much further ahead at this point than we have been," Davis said following Thursday morning's practice.

The veteran coach is beginning his third season as the Vikings' OC after his successful stint as PSU Head Coach from 1975-80, then a long and storied career around every level of football.

SR WR/KR Aaron Woods should be the sparkplug for the Vikings in 2009. He was sixth in the nation in all-purpose yards with 178.9 per game last season. The dominutive Woods averaged 93 yards receiving per game while leading the Big Sky Conference in kick return average (25.9) and all-purpose yards.

Quarterbacks Drew Hubel (2,912 yards, 18 TDs) and Tygue Howland (1,111 yards, 5 TDs), and fullback Bobby McClintock (457 yards, 6 TDs) also return.
