It isn't true. Joe paraphrased and injected his biased world view.

So did you read it?
I paraphrased it completely and accurately.

Under the discussion of provisions of the Convention defining and dealing with the basic health care rights of a child, the Committee wrote:

The Committee urges the Holy See to review its position on abortion which places obvious risks on the life and health of pregnant girls and to amend Canon 1398 relating to abortion with a view to identifying circumstances under which access to abortion services can be permitted.

Therefore, the Committee plainly expressed that access to abortion is a basic health care right of a child.

Rampant anti-semitism, rampant raping and pillaging with their peacekeeping troops, and even the denial and coverup of causing the massive cholera outbreak in Haiti. The UN is really just happy to redirect people's attention away from their own gross moral failures.
Was an independent commission, you smug prick.

Nope. You'll hear no excuses for the Vatican from me.

I just find the UN to be equally abhorrent- worse in fact. I've worked in the civpol venue and I'm well qualified to call the UN a cesspool

Nope, you conveniently misinterpreted again with your last statement.

Joe, would you let your wife die rather than consent to a life saving abortion?

If your 14 year old daughter was raped and impregnated, would you force her to carry to term?

You're shooting the messenger for the Catholic Church. That's an excuse.

What do you know about this specific committee. Did you read the report? It's dead on.

Yeah, I say this...
The Church rightfully deserves the scorn it gets when it comes to the child abuse topics.
and that's taken as, you say, "making excuses for the church". Let's face it, you aren't upset about child abuse, you just don't like religion and targetting child abuse is your vehicle for pushing that. Shame on you, stepping over the tragedy that is child abuse to advance your hate.
You could have left it at that, but no, you have take your shot at the commission thus minimizing the impact if their report.

You don't give a shit about children.

Raping children, raping nuns, damn where does it end? So glad I am in the process of joining the Episcopal Church. At least in the Anglican communion they realize people are people and don't force clergy to take a "vow of celibacy".

As a catholic friend of my sister's once told her(she was a parish secretary in the Midwest), her priest grabbed her tits one day in the office and said, "It's either you or one of the kids". Goddamned perverts!

Next door neighbor growing up got knocked up by her Episcopal priest. Everyone in town knew about it, but she never told the kid who his father actually was.

Joe, if your wife required an abortion to save her life, would you allow it? If she got an abortion, would you support her excommunication?

If your 14 year old daughter was raped and impregnated, would you allow her to have an abortion? If her life was in danger due to pregnancy, would you allow an abortion? If she got one anyway, would you turn her in and have her excommunicated?

Joe, I'm still waiting for proof the commission got the idea for SOL reform from Jeff Anderson.

That's right. I'm shooting the abhorrent messenger. If you were 1/10th as informed about the UN and it's issues as you are about the scandals involving the Catholic Church you'd put a caveat on anything you post from any UN commission.

But I don't dispute the report.

It's funny. You accept all sorts of unfounded conjecture about the Catholic Church without any proof at all; but you demand proof of something that any thinking person would recognize is self-evident.

Joe, it's a known fact your church protects pedophiles and covers up their crimes.

Again, where's the proof that the commission was not thinking about SOL reform until Jeff Anderson told them to.

I'll be waiting.

From the article: Bishop Eugene Taylor Sutton of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland prohibited Belcher from exercising any priestly functions in January. With the conviction, the diocese will pursue deposing Belcher to permanently exclude him from the Episcopal priesthood.

Rome would give him a promotion and shuffle him off to another diocese. :ohno:

He'd be secretly shipped to the Vatican so they could keep him quiet. Just like they did recently that high ranking Vatican envoy in the Dominican Republic who raped all those children.

At the Vatican he'd have access to all the boy and man ass he could buttfuck. Vatican is heaven for a gay man and or pedophile.

Do you know that, according to insurance statistics, the rate of abuse by Episcopal clergy is higher than the rate of abuse by Catholic clergy?

The Episcopal Church has a long way to go to match the skill and sophistication of the Catholic Church in covering up crimes. They'll need decades to accumulate "catholic scratch" - billions in hush/threat money, lawyers, PR firms and bribes.

Still waiting for the Jeff Anderson and abortion reply. :coffee:

Why should I answer? What I would do or not do in a hypothetical situation I have never and will never face is unimportant, and certainly no grounds to influence abortion law.

If you'd agree that abortion was legal only in cases in which the mother's life (or health, appropriately defined) was in jeopardy, or in cases of rape, I would sign onto that law.

But there is a huge leap between extreme cases like the ones you cite, and the finding that abortion is a health-care right of a child.

It's ironic. It is the Catholic Church's cover-up which has been pathetic. The Episcopalians have it down. I mean, you never hear anything about abuse in their church, even though it occurs at a rate higher than in Catholicism.

You'd have to extrapolate from a lot of on-line data to find this answer. My source is a legal brief filed by an attorney (that I know) in a diocesan bankruptcy case who handles such claims against insurers of these types of claims. He personally told me that the rate of reported claims against Catholic clergy is lower than virtually all other Christian denominations, but cases against other Christian denominations don't get the same level of media scrutiny because the gross number of cases are smaller. By way of comparison, there are about 78 million Catholics in the United States (nearly 25% of the population). There are fewer than 2.5 million Episcopalians.

Here is an article that generally supports what I said:

It does generally support what you were claiming... IF you group ALL protestants together.

There are roughly 170 million protestants in the United States vs. 78 million Catholics.

Though the numbers of claimed cases may be approximately the same... the rate is over double for the Catholic church.

If anything... that begs the question... Why is the rate twice as high for the Catholic Church?

Because the old men in the Vatican push and force celibacy among their clergy even though Christ Himself never endorsed it as a prerequisite to be a minister. The life of an cleric can be lonely and there are times when even their faith will falter but the Episcopal Church knows this, embraces diversity and even requires their priests to take certain times of sabbatical to refresh their energies and souls.

It is sad to see the actions imposed upon Rome's priests by her draconian logic and no wonder so many lose faith and leave the priesthood. No church is perfect by any means but with Episcopal clergy, those that are married, at least have a life partner with which they can confide in.

My priest at the EC church I am in the process of being received in is married and his wife is very active in the life of the parish and you can see that it makes him more complete and more well rounded as a means to minister to the flock he has been ordained to shepherd.

I know PLENTY of RC priests who would make great husbands and fathers, but it's sad that they will never get that chance and unfortunately, humanity's sexual urges stay repressed and only bad can come from that.

You do realize nothing in the article supports the claim you just made?? :coffee:

The reported Protestant figure of 260 cases per year is based on claims made to only three insurance companies.

The point of the article is that number of claims involving Protestant clergy reported to just three insurance companies exceed the total number of all claims against Catholic clergy. You did understand that, right?
