There was. It immediately preceded a 10% decline in the S&P 500.houndawg wrote:No worries, you thought there would be a head and shoulders pattern too.CitadelGrad wrote:But I though QE was going to infinity.

Of course it is, but you can't liquidate land very easily, especially in bad times, and environmental regulations are decreasing the value of land more and more with wetland definition changes and increasing buffer requirements.houndawg wrote:Buy land, boys, the stock market is a sucker's game rigged for the insiders.

Re: Stock Market
Some sort of market correction is due: opportunity to take profits on overvalued stocks. No time for panic selling or political finger-pointing. 2014 probably won't be as good a year for the market as 2013.

I don't bother trying to time the market, but just keep plowing away a constant percentage into my 401K.

Once upon a time I was a big reader of Kiplinger's personal finance and Money magazine, then realized that by the time the rag was printed and distributed most of the info and recommendations were pretty much worthless. To your point, unless you're an insider it's pretty much like driving with the rear view mirror and expecting past performance to be indicative of what will happen going forward.93henfan wrote:Dollar cost averaging is about the best thing a non-insider can do, unless you have a ton of time on your hands to research stocks or want to pay loads to an advisor.ASUG8 wrote:I don't bother trying to time the market, but just keep plowing away a constant percentage into my 401K.
I keep an eye on it probably monthly, do a few tweaks as necessary, and otherwise let it ride.

Record close of the S&P today. But, I guess y'all only like talking about the stock market on days it goes down.

They do, although the Dems only mention it when it goes up. The vice-versa is true when the other side held the executive power.
