Again, the report came from an independent commission. They did not cover up anything.Ibanez wrote:Both groups have covered up evil deeds. The RCC's inability to protect the youth and adhere to their own moral code is a contributing reason why I left the Church in 2001.D1B wrote:
Read the report, then look at what has been happening for the last three decades. Then you decide. Kelp in mind this is an independent commission, not the U.N.
Look at what's happening now: more cover up, all over the world.

Go ahead and start a U.N. thread. The battered conks here would love some respite.

The Committee wrote that abortion is a health care right of adolescents, and the Vatican's position opposing abortion violated provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (Disability, basic health and welfare (arts. 6, 18 (para. 3), 23, 24, 26, 27 (paras. 13) and 33 of the Convention).

It cites as an "example" some heinous act of poor judgment on the part of a bishop somewhere in the world; assumes that this judgment was approved by, authorized by, or directed by the Vatican (who in the Vatican is left to your imagination); and then concludes the Vatican is responsible for it. The report fails to cite, even in a single instance, any proof for the assumptions it advances.
The fact is these allegations of a Vatican-led conspiracy have been rejected every time an American court has been asked to rule on the issue. So Ander$NAP tickled the feathers of this UN Commission, because they knew these self-important extremists would do their bidding for them, without imposing a requirement that there be actual proof.
Here is the cold fact about any "report", including the now obviously false Philadelphia grand jury report: they are often written by people who have an agenda, and they often abuse their supposed stature to dupe people who don't have the time or inclination to review critically what is "reported."
Don't believe what is in an "official report" just because it is an "official report."

JPII's "canonization" is gonna be controversial considering all the covering up he did. What would make a grown man want to cover up something so repulsive as the concealed rape and sexual trauma of a child?! **ck!!!
Re: United Nations slams the Vatican
I know you didn't actually read the report, but the UN Commission directs the Vatican to consent to the abolition of statutes of limitations in abuse cases -- which has long been the aim of Ander$NAP.D1B wrote: Jeff Anderson rules the UN now!
Now where do you think that idea came from??
We learned in law school that statutes of limitations exist to prevent fraud and unfairness. Repealing the statute of limitations so "new victims" can sue is stupid and ridiculous, especially since experts are asserting that as many as 50% of "new cases" against the Church are fraudulent. I guess my law professors were right about the Statute of Limitations preventing fraud.

Re: United Nations slams the Vatican
We'll see how the PSU report fares when the defendants have their day in court. My own read of the report was it did document facts; however, it often assumed the worst inferences from those facts, even through more reasonable inferences were at least equally plausible.kalm wrote:I agree but you are now starting to sound like Citadelgrad defending PSU.JoltinJoe wrote:

I also think the NCAA acted shamefully when it vacated all of PSU's wins from 1998 forward. This was really just a puny act of retribution which, in truth, punished the players who worked hard for those victories. Paterno was dead. Stripping him of wins didn't punish him in the least. Regardless of Paterno's failure of moral judgment, PSU played those games and won those games. It is pretty Orwellian to re-write history. Reminds me of the Cold War when "comrades" who had fallen out of the USSR's favor were excised from the public memory.

Yes it is appalling, to humanity that we allowed the Catholic Church to rape and destroy children. Every catholic should read the report then storm their archdiocese offices and demand accountability.

Joe, your church allowed priests to rape children, mostly boys. But if I was looking for an international broker of integrity and morality the last place I would look is the UN- the very same organization that covers for human trafficking and rapine in its own "peacekeeper" ranks

Agreed. The Church rightfully deserves the scorn it gets when it comes to the child abuse topics. But the UN is the wrong group to be dishing out moral platitudes. Rampant anti-semitism, rampant raping and pillaging with their peacekeeping troops, and even the denial and coverup of causing the massive cholera outbreak in Haiti. The UN is really just happy to redirect people's attention away from their own gross moral failures.CID1990 wrote:I'm not defending the Batican because frankly I don't care
