Depends. If you've got one culture that has opinions that lead to the correct decisions then having more cultural opinions decreases efficiency. And I think the United States is in the "decreased efficiency" mode.

2). Tell us more about this "United States Culture" you speak of...

Well, the one that got us to where we got had accepted conventions. Like marriage being between one man and one woman. Like being grounded in Christian Faith. And, no, I'm not a Christian but that was part of the culture. There were non Christians but there were all sorts of associations between Christianity and government. Prayer before high school football games. Prayer in schools every morning. Prayer by the Apollo Eight astronauts as they orbited the moon on Christmas Eve.

Watch Leave it to Beaver. Watch Father Knows Best. Others. Those were expressions of the culture. You may not think it should have been like that. But that's how it was. They were expressions related to what was culturally accepted. There was no effort to act as though "multiculturalism" was something to be embraced.

And we were a more efficient, effective country at the time.

Here is what baffles me to no end. Conservative bible thumpers will go to foreign lands to try to convert others not like them but then when these same folks come here and still speak in their native land, somehow it is looked down upon. Am I missing something here? :ohno:

You have to face it, America has always been multicultural. Prime example of this is New York City where you have Hells Kitchen, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, Little Italy, Spanish Harlem, East Harlem (large Chinese population) etc.. Even today, I read some time back that about 35% of NYC residents are foreign-born. These different cultures have given us US Presidents, actors, industrialists, entrepreneurs, etc... Without all these different cultures we wouldn't have Pabst, Miller, Schiltz, Carnegie Hall, countless food dishes that are considered "American", music, etc.... You benefit greatly from this melting pot aka multiculturalism. You of all people, living in Louisiana (with the heavy Spanish, French, African, Native American history) should recognize that. You want to talk about language, i'm 30 yrs old and am waiting for the day when my cousins from New Orleans learn to speak English so I can understand what the fuck they are saying! Creole is a prime example of how successful the blending of cultures have been.

If you don't like it, if you don't like all these different people then perhaps you should leave. I hear Russia is nice as long as you're white and straight.

Did I say it's always been that way? No. It was primarily Dutch and then English. The Irish began pouring in, starting around the mid 1840s. 800,000 Germans game into NYC in the 1850s. However, nothing you said disputes that we are a nation built on the cultures of others.

So, what exactly are you saying? Oh wait...it's the NON EUROPEANS. You hate Africans, hispanics, Asians, Muslims, etc.. That's it. It's cool to be multicultural, as long as the people look like you. :dunce:

Sorry, but it's laughable that diversity in itself is a strength. Matter of fact, if you do an internet search you can find some research showing that more heterogeneous communities tend to be more insular, less involved in their communities, and less trusting of their neighbors.

For me immigration is more of a practical issue than a feel-good issue about "enriching" our lives having more food and music choices. We just can't sustain our country with our low birth rates. And we can't replace a lot of hispanic farm workers (the Georgia and Alabama immigration bills showed that) and a lot of Indian and orientals who have taken STEM jobs at universities. We're actually fairly lucky in that we get a lot of smart and hard-working people from other countries who assimilate reasonably well. I'm not sure you can say the same thing for Europe. There's probably no other country in the world where immigration (if it exists) has been so beneficial.
Celebrate Diversity.*
