Chuck South putting together a killer recruiting class

2 days before signing day and already CSU holds the top recruiting class in the Big South and 130th in all of college football. Not only can Coach Chadwell coach looks like he can recruit just as well.

Re: Chuck South putting together a killer recruiting class
Yeeeaaaaah. This website also has Stony Brook and VMI as still being Big South members. It also only lists a couple of players as being committed to any other Big South school which is highly unlikely at this stage. On another page, it lists the top 138 schools in the country and CSU isn't on it -- NDSU is apparently #130 at the moment. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this website might not exactly be the gold standard of accuracy when it comes to up-to-the-minute information on FCS recruiting. But who knows? 247's arbitrary rankings of high school athletes might just be that much better than every other recruiting service's arbitrary rankings.
Re: Chuck South putting together a killer recruiting class
Also, I can only assume that all of CSU's commitments take their official visits strictly at night. Bazinga.

If Jamey Chadwell can get good-to-high-quality players to come play for Charleston Southern (a small Baptist college w/ shaky facilities at best), he must be one hell of a coach.

Yes. This recruiting class in going to be OUTSTANDING. One of the things Coach Chadwell is known for is that he is a relentless recruiter. However, it is not just him. This whole coaching staff is made up of relentless recruiters. The past few official visit weekends have produced some major talent.CSUBUCDAD wrote:http://charlestonsouthern.247sports.com ... ll/Commits

You're right, BucDad. It is all about the vision. The coaching staff is selling vision and family. These recruits want to be part of the vision and want to be part of a family (a family of coaches and fellow brothers).

Having worked for rivals...pay zero attention to how these sites ranks any classes outside of the top 30ish.

By the way, if you were a nuclear engineer, then you've clearly never been anywhere near Charleston Southern University. The house I grew up in stands about a mile from that campus and, if you had ever been there, you would know that bashing the place is practically an involuntary reflex. Much like gagging.

Nope...had the distinct pleasure (?) of being stationed in upstate New York at the Navy's Ballston Spa facility, then on the USS California.

Re: Chuck South putting together a killer recruiting class
This is true. In fact, I would be leery of highly rated high school kids who fall to the FCS level. Usually there's a red flag somewhere if a "3-Star" or better doesn't sign with an FBS school. Occasionally you'll get a special circumstances case, but not often.clenz wrote:Having worked for rivals...pay zero attention to how these sites ranks any classes outside of the top 30ish.
Seriously....
Ever
What usually happens is the services will give a kid a 2-star automatically if there's significant FCS interest, or a rumor of at least a low level FBS offer. If multiple BCS level schools offer, it's an automatic 3-star. Typically, this happens over the summer during the camp season ... once the season starts, and there's more tape to evaluate, kids start to slide and the offers drop off. Doesn't mean a kid is a bad player by FCS standards, but likely not the stud he was projected to be during 7-on-7 and camp drills.
And then there are the kids who are rated highly on ability, but have off-field or academic issues which cause FBS schools to pass.
I've found over the years, that the best FCS players are usually kids who didn't go to the summer camps, and were overlooked by the recruiting services, or were simply late bloomers physically, once they got to college. We have one who was a 2nd round pick by the Falcons last year (Robert Alford), and another on our team this year who will likely follow in Alford's footsteps (Harlan Miller) in two years. Neither showed up in the recruiting databases in high school.

1. If a kid commits to a FCS (or mid major for basketball) early on they will not be re-rated at any point unless they de-commit and the big boys come after him again. I've watched it happen with UNI basketball. A kid commits to UNI early in the process and will never, especially in basketball, be better than a 2 star...ever if he's lucky enough to get that. UNI has a true frosh right now that was on a team in HS that won 2 straight state titles with undefeated seasons in the largest class in the state of Iowa. He was by far the best player on the team. He put up amazing stats, was named Gatorade Athlete of the Year, 1st team elite all state, Mr Basketball, dominated his AAU circut etc... yet he was completely unranked. A kid that signed with Iowa with fairly similar states from the state of Iowa was a 3/4 star kid. The same situation is playing out with a kid UNI has signed for next year. He plays for the same team that the first kid played for, is only playing 3 quarters because of blow outs, putting up numbers to break/set most school records. He committed to UNI during his Soph season and hasn't been re-rated by Rivals, Scout/ESPN/247/etc... once since then even though every coach in the state of Iowa/AAU circut says he is by far the best player in the state and could go for 30+ points and 8-10+ assists per game if he really wanted too/needed too. He's dropped 60-70 multiple times on the AAU circut. BUT he has a minor heart condition....that will keep him from ever being ranked by anything. The condition is very minor and hasn't caused him issues in a couple years and his dr says it won't going forward. That is enough to keep him unranked. Same story played out a couple years ago when our all conference center (now a jr) committed early in the process. His AAU coach was pissed because he didn't wait for offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois, Nebraksa, Minnesota, etc.. that he was sure to get. Never was rated higher than a 2 star by any service at anytime. He's now a first team all MVC player, was MVC FOY, going to set many school/conference records of some kind, etc..
2. If a kid is rated a 3 star entering the season but commits to an FCS 80%+ of the time he will drop to a 2 start to not rated.
Re: Chuck South putting together a killer recruiting class
I'm not sure what his profession has to do with being near CSU (I mean, the nuclear school isn't that far away from the school). I grew up in West Ashley and everyone made fun of CSU, Goose Greek, Ladson and Summerville on a daily basis. It's like breathing, you naturally do it.Libertine wrote:Oh, heavens. I've been zinged. Re: Chuck South putting together a killer recruiting class
Oh, dear Lord, I have to explain this?
Nuclear engineering requires a high level of critical thinking. The implication here is that attendance at CSU requires a complete void thereof.
Come on, people. This is CS.com! It exists for three purposes and three purposes only. (1. It allows UNI and NDSU fans another outlet besides the bathroom wall at the homeless shelter. (2. Grizzaholic really needs someplace to manage his softcore addiction. (3. It protects the civilized world against the catastrophe that would be a SuperHornet Twitter feed. Come on! This place is one step above a Youtube comments section! Nobody comes here to discuss meaningful facts or the exact spatial relationship between two points on a map.

The last thing I would admit to, is being an engineer. I have worked with way too many of them.
