Liberty University wants Gays to go to JAIL
Staver: Well, it seems as though, if people are having AIDS and most of that, as the CDC comes down and says, it is transmitted by male homosexuality, by and large, what are you going to do? Are you going to say, are you going to elevate that to a preferred status and say, well yeah, men ought to be able to marry men? That's an oxymoron. What Nigeria has done by reaffirming marriage as between one man and one woman is what a number of countries are doing around the world. They're reaffirming marriage as one man and one woman. Russia is one of those countries recently that did that. Latin American countries have reaffirmed marriage as one man and one woman. Then other countries around the world are reaffirming marriage as one man and one woman and rejecting this radicalized homosexual agenda.
Nigeria is currently arresting, trying and will likely execute gays.

This is not news. Nigeria has proscribed gay marriage over their history. Penalties on the books run from imprisonment to the death penalty.dbackjon wrote:Staver: Well, it seems as though, if people are having AIDS and most of that, as the CDC comes down and says, it is transmitted by male homosexuality, by and large, what are you going to do? And these "new" laws differ from the old how? Seems like you can't get much worse than the death penalty, which they already have.dbackjon wrote:CID1990 wrote:

GOODLUCK JONATHAN, Nigeria’s president, signed a bill on January 13th that criminalises same-sex relationships, arguing that the new law is in line with the country’s religious and cultural beliefs. Stirring up homophobia also happens to provide a useful distraction for Mr Jonathan, who is likely to run for re-election next year but has been stumbling since the defection of a clutch of lawmakers and state governors to the opposition.
The new law will please most people in Nigeria, where anti-gay sentiment is rife. Under the previous rule sodomy was already an offence, but the new law paves the way for a crackdown on same-sex relationships. It prescribes prison sentences of up to 14 years and bans same-sex marriage, intimate relationships with a member of the same sex, and gay organisations.

Actually this new law is less egregious than what they had on the books already. There is nothing "new" to this, it is merely election year populism; drawing attention to the president and making it look as though he is tough on the gays.
Seriously, what do you expect from places like this, Jon?

I don't expect much, but I also want to draw attention to people that call for it here. The new wave of anti-gay laws sweeping Africa are all being pushed by a group of far-right wing Christians from the US. These people are also buddies with many in the GOP. Speaking at Liberty U is a right of passage for GOP contenders.

Yet anti-gay, "Don't say gay" "Gays can be denied housing, hotels, etc" legislation is proposed and passed in a number of states JUST THIS YEAR.

On Thursday, Arizona State Rep. Steve Yarbrough's proposed legislation that, if passed, would allow businesses to refuse services to the LGBT community on the basis of religious freedom passed the Senate Committee on Government and Education.
The bill, SB1062, could be used to protect business that discriminate not only again the LGBT community but also unmarried women or those of different religions. According to Rep. Yarbrough, SB1062 could broadly be interpreted to allow, for example, a motel to refuse service to a same-sex couple on the grounds that it would “substantially burden” their freedom of religion.

Passed out of Senate Committee. Similar bills are pending in at least three other states.

First, passed means law. This has not passed into law.
Secondly, you overdramatized this to sound as though the state itself would proscribe housing or hotel rooms for gays. At the absolute worst, some mom and pop roach motel might deny service, but never in a million years would a chain like the Motel 6 do so. AND all of this is moot because this will not become law.
The government is not going to string up the gays, Jon.

Why does this even matter?
Like the poster above said earlier, dont go to Nigeria.
If a business owner is denying service to you DONT GO TO HIS BUSINESS. This is what really pisses me off, when a person is denied something for any reason OBVIOUSLY there needs to be a law forcing sombody in a free country to think the way they do. Fu*k people like that and DEAL WITH IT, its called life and this Nigerian thing should show you how selfishly lucky you are to live where you do.
It so simple even a gayman can do it.

Re: Liberty University wants Gays to go to JAIL
The Liberty guy didn't say homosexuals should go to jail. He said that a number of countries including Nigeria have reaffirmed the idea that marriage involves one man and one woman. Then the comment was made that Nigeria (also) sends homosexuals to jail.
