I think that Socialism only works with a mostly homogenous population........would never work here even if everyone wanted it.

They are democratic socialists, but have a mixed economy like us.

I don't know. How do rates of smoking, cardiovascular disease, and obesity in the US compare to Sweden? My guess is that we have a lot more.

Probably true.

Clearly the problem in the US isn't the quality of our technology, cancer care, preventative care, etc, it's the unequal access to those things that leads to lower overall outcomes than countries like Sweden.

Plenty of access to medical care in prisons.

Plenty of access to cigarettes, pretzels, sodas, and lounging around doing nothing but dodging bullets in poor areas.

Plenty of fat TV watchers in most of America.

Once you get out of the third world, longevity is tied to lifestyle...and to some degree genetics.


And the happiness poll? Please. Happiness is a result of expectations. Expectations in this country are a result of carefully planned campaign: "It isn't FAIR that they have more than you!"
