I've used TaxAct, Turbotax and H&R Block. HRB and Turbo seem to look for more deductions/credits than TaxAct. However, I've used HR Block for the past 2 years and have been happy.ASUG8 wrote:What do you guys (who prepare your own) use? I used Turbotax for years, but our VP of Tax here swears by TaxAct which I've been using for a couple of years now. It's less expensive and seems to do at least as good a job as Turbotax.

I haven't received any 1099s yet, nor have I received all of my tax forms from my banks/investments/etc. (some aren't even available yet). How in the heck have you already done your taxes?

I'd do the same thing - the whole rental cost/income/net proceeds thing can be a major IRS red flag. I'm sure the off the shelf programs are really designed to handle a complicated return like that. Mine is pretty straight forward.grizzaholic wrote:

Especially when most of the maintenance is done by ME. I bill my time bi-monthly as well as anything that I buy...account from ACE. I am sure that makes things better but, hell. It is worth every penny to give monies to a guy and have him do all of the number stuff.ASUG8 wrote:I'd do the same thing - the whole rental cost/income/net proceeds thing can be a major IRS red flag. It'd be nice if we got a break due to my wife being laid off in August.

There are a few forms I haven't received but they aren't income and would go towards credits.bandl wrote:How in the f...

Re: Just did my taxes....
Hey, I have a serious question to those who have moved across state lines. Since I am moving sometime this year, should I go with a new Accountant next year (2014 taxes) or stick with my Virginia Accountant? Between the move and my S-Corp bullshit that would be dealt with in the 2014 tax cycle, would it be easier for the MO or VA guy? Whoever does it will have to deal with the other state issues, but I'm wondering which one would have the easier task.

Pull up your bootstraps, get fabulously wealthy, and only pay 14%!Ibanez wrote:Fuck. 30% went to taxes.![]()
That's depressing. I'm not against paying taxes but damn...almost 1/3 went to someone else. 7.41% went to insurance, that's fine. But 30%!!

D, I agree some taxation is necessary, but a lot of our taxes go to wasteful public spending and to pay debts associated with a war which was dubious in its purposes. I'm all for a strong defense too, but I think our military spending merits scrutiny too.D1B wrote:Hey, dickhead, I can find a thousands ways you benefitted from taxes.Ibanez wrote:****. 30% went to taxes.![]()

Hey cunt stick, I've said twice, at least twice, in this thread how I am for taxation. Get the peanut butter off your balls and pay attention.D1B wrote:Hey, dickhead, I can find a thousands ways you benefitted from taxes.Ibanez wrote:Fuck. 30% went to taxes.![]()

Re: Just did my taxes....
I'd tell my VA guy what's going on and ask if he's comfortable with filing once you've moved to MO. The Federal part won't change, just possibly the state piece. He may know a guy (you know, accounting guys are such social butterfliesCAA Flagship wrote:Hey, I have a serious question to those who have moved across state lines. Just knocked out my federal and both states on TurboTax in an hour and 20 minutes and e-filed everything.
Getting about $4500 back.
