For a few reasons:

1) I love trash talking, it makes me happy / pre-game / in-game / post-game (I love it in all its forms)
2) White people have a special aversion to trash talking (we'll cover the historical relevance of that later)
3) Starting with Mohamed Ali and working its way - all the way - to Richard Sherman

Of course I'm a HUGE Richard Sherman fan
Not just because he's the best cover corner in the NFL
Not just because he's a Stanford Grad (presently working on his masters)
Not just because he plays for the Seahawks

But because he personifies everything white people just can't stand...
He's a loud mouthed trash talking uppity N**ger

:coffee: and I love him so much

Quotes from Sherman:
“What’s the definition of a thug? Really? Can a guy on a football field just talking to people be a thug?… There was a hockey game where they didn’t even play hockey! They just threw the puck aside and started fighting. I saw that and said, ‘Ah, man, I’m the thug? What’s going on here?’”

http://www.blackchristiannews.com/2014/ ... im-nigger/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So stupid and so wrong on so many levels.

Sherman is too white to be a thug.
Sherman isn't the best corner in the NFL
Nobody cares what Sherman says or thinks

Al Capone was a thug
Tyson was a thug
Sherman is just a loud mouth who is trying to be relevant in the NFL, and people that have to tell you how great they are probably are not.

You are just a guilty white fu* khead that is trying to take another word out of the American lexicon

Abortion is only one example (but it is the best one) where the left has no choice but to use code words to defend something that is otherwise difficult if not impossible to defend. Abortion proponents must dehumanize the aborted, and there is a whole lexicon of substitute words they use to do that.

There are other good examples, such as in the political environmental movement, progressive fiscal policy, but abortion is the best example.

So it strikes me as understandable that the folks most prone to using code words to make something bad more palatable would see everyone else as doing the same thing.

Not sure about that.

It's been a stated mission of the Republican Party for the last few decades. See: Frank Luntz.

Patriot Act

Clean Air Act

But, by far the best is "global warming" --> "Climate change"
We have spent the last seven years examining how best to communicate
complicated ideas and controversial subjects. The terminology in the upcoming
environmental debate needs refinement, starting with “global warming”
and ending
with “environmentalism.” It’s time for us to start talking about “climate change”
instead of global warming and “conservation” instead of preservation.
1. “Climate change” is less frightening than “global warming.” As one focus group
participant noted, climate change “sounds like you’re going from Pittsburgh to
Fort Lauderdale.” While global warming has catastrophic connotations attached
to it, climate change suggests a more controllable and less emotional challenge.
The scientific debate is closing [against us] but not yet closed. There is still a window of opportunity to challenge the science...Voters believe that there is no consensus about global warming within the scientific community. Should the public come to believe that the scientific issues are settled, their views about global warming will change accordingly. Therefore, you need to continue to make the lack of scientific certainty a primary issue in the debate.

That reminds me Skelly...

1. Don't say 'capitalism.'

"I'm trying to get that word removed and we're replacing it with either 'economic freedom' or 'free market,' " Luntz said. "The public . . . still prefers capitalism to socialism, but they think capitalism is immoral. And if we're seen as defenders of quote, Wall Street, end quote, we've got a problem."

2. Don't say that the government 'taxes the rich.' Instead, tell them that the government 'takes from the rich.'

"If you talk about
raising taxes on the rich," the public responds favorably, Luntz cautioned. But "if you talk about government taking the money from hardworking Americans, the public says no. Taxing, the public will say yes."

3. Republicans should forget about winning the battle over the 'middle class.' Call them 'hardworking taxpayers.'

"They cannot win if the fight is on hardworking taxpayers. We can say we defend the 'middle class' and the public will say, I'm not sure about that. But defending 'hardworking taxpayers' and Republicans have the advantage."

4. Don't talk about 'jobs.' Talk about 'careers.'

"Everyone in this room talks about 'jobs,'" Luntz said. "Watch this."

He then asked everyone to raise their hand if they want a "job." Few hands went up. Then he asked who wants a "career." Almost every hand was raised.

"So why are we talking about jobs?"

5. Don't say 'government spending.' Call it 'waste.'

"It's not about 'government spending.' It's about 'waste.' That's what makes people angry."

6. Don't ever say you're willing to 'compromise.'

"If you talk about 'compromise,' they'll say you're selling out. Your side doesn't want you to 'compromise.' What you use in that to replace it with is 'cooperation.' It means the same thing. But cooperation means you stick to your principles but still get the job done. Compromise says that you're selling out those principles."

7. The three most important words you can say to an Occupier: 'I get it.'

"First off, here are three words for you all: 'I get it.' . . . 'I get that you're angry. I get that you've seen inequality. I get that you want to fix the system."

Then, he instructed, offer Republican solutions to the problem.

8. Out: 'Entrepreneur.' In: 'Job creator.'

Use the phrases "small business owners" and "job creators" instead of "entrepreneurs" and "innovators."

9. Don't ever ask anyone to 'sacrifice.'

"There isn't an American today in November of 2011 who doesn't think they've already sacrificed. If you tell them you want them to 'sacrifice,' they're going to be be pretty angry at you. You talk about how 'we're all in this together.' We either succeed together or we fail together."

10. Always blame Washington.

Tell them, "You shouldn't be occupying Wall Street, you should be occupying Washington. You should occupy the White House because it's the policies over the past few years that have created this problem."

BONUS:

Don't say 'bonus!'

Luntz advised that if they give their employees an income boost during the holiday season, they should never refer to it as a "bonus."

"If you give out a bonus at a time of financial hardship, you're going to make people angry. It's 'pay for performance.'"

You need to brush up on your semantics, SK

The term "Climate change" is 100% a creation of the environmental left. You can link as many articles as you like that try to revise the history of the AGW debate, but it was changed to "climate change" in reaction to the environmental right pointing out record cold temps and winter storms.

So that's a fail on the global warming dog whistle, but yeah- the right does it too so I guess that excuses the left.

Actually, the word "thug" is derived from the Hindi "thuggee," meaning thief. Measured by that rubric, Al Capone, Bernie Madoff, the Abscam politicians, and Clyde Barrow are thugs. Richard Sherman, who tries to steal other teams' passes, is also a thug. But Barack Obama is not a thug. :twocents:

Very good point

If I want to use the word thug I will and If I want to call somebody a nigger I will. The words are nowhere near the same and to use them as such proves your disconnect with the american lexicon. In hockey they use to word goon, in 30 years when there are a few more black hockey players I bet they try to pull the same thing Sherman is with thug and I will call those goons on it.

It pisses me off the manejeff is following my line of thinking and its the first time he has ever been correct on this site to my knowledge.

Murder? :wtf:

Think of it more along the lines of 80's pop being a big bootied blond white trash girl (or for the sake of sexual preference...Vince Neil) reluctantly experiencing her first BBC (rap)...and never going back.

What I'm trying to say is...there was some great music in the 80's, but 80's pop mostly sucked...I think.
