MSNBC makes fun of Mitt Romney's black grandson

Post by LeadBolt »

MSNBC makes fun of Mitt Romney's adopted back grandson. Is it because of his race or his grandfather's politics?

Just another example of the double standard of the left. Is the MSNBC apology enough?

How does it differ from Phil Robertson's saying he loves all people including gays then says they are sinners?

Discuss.

I edited my post after your comment. Seriously, how does this differ from Phil Robertson's comments as far as being bigoted?

I don't think they differ.

They're both dumb issues that I really don't care about. "OMG. Somebody said something dumb in an interview or on television! Alert the presses!"

If you have a job that puts you in the public eye... you have to be careful about what you say publicly. If A&E wants to suspend of fire Robertson... they can do so. If MSNBC wants to fire or suspend this idiot... they're also fine to do so.

But, if I wanted to get up-in-arms about every dumb thing said on television or in a magazine interview... it would be a full time job.

Who's calling for anyone to be fired here?

I think the issue here like Lead Bolt says is the double standard.

I wonder if the people who defended Phil Robertson will defend these people? Or will it be another example of the double standard on the right?

It's only a double standard because you are applying the wrong standard. Everyone wants free speech, as long as they agree with what is being said.

Something happened on MSNBC, and somebody noticed? Wow. I thought MSNBC was where you went after you got kicked off of TV.

This. I'm sure there were some idiots on the left calling for Robertson's firing. Just like there were idiots on the right calling for Martin Bashir's firing after he talked about pooping in Sarah Palin's mouth. It's not a free speech issue, it's an employment issue.

There is quite a bit of difference between Robertson and what happened on MSNBC. Robertson equated gays to terrorists and perverts. He's further been shown to have completely ignored the plight of blacks in the south prior to Civil Rights and endorsed the concept of marrying your woman when she's 15. He has every right to believe these things and speak them publicly. But no one should expect him to be sheltered from people who ridicule him for it.

I'm quite sure that after the initial surprise and giggles, everyone on that panel would have no problem with a lily white mormon family adopting a black kid. They'd probably applaud it. But it was still a funny photo and the reaction was in no way demeaning to the kid.

Dean Obeidallah is a personal friend of mine and I thought his line was pretty funny. No need to apologize. The Romneys distributed the photo for public purposes and thus invited commentary.
