Re: Senate donks vote to cut military pensions
The funny thing is that the Dems know they can get this stuff through right now because the GOP wants to avoid another shutdown (and the blame for it), so the Dens are going to push a lot of this stuff through. The reason they are stupid is they should be pushing for MORE because they have nothing to lose at this point- if there is another shutdown they can deflect away from the slow motion train wreck that is the ACA. In fact, another shutdown is totally in the Dems' interest at this point. It is their only hope to avoid a bloodbath next fall.

There is so much wrong with what you have said here, I don't know where to start. You probably have no idea what honor really is so don't use that word like you do. Most of us do it for many reason, personal and patriotic. You do it for the man next to you, you do it because it needs to be done, period. If you don't like the way our military operates, elect a better commander in chief. You HAVE TO SEPARATE the politics from the military and it's mission. Like it our not, we are all responsible for what our dick-head-in-charge-this-week does with our troops and the troops are just doing their job they were assigned. I really thought it was something we learned from Vietnam but it seems many today probably couldn't even point the country out on a map. I just gotta say the pussification of America continues and some people really don't even understand some of the basic fundamental principles of our country anymore.

The thing is though with the conks folding like they have, again, they have pissed off a lot of their base, who simply will stay home or vote 3rd party. I'm one of those- there is ZERO chance I will vote for my RINO congressman in PA, Pat Meehan. I would support any decent primary challenger. Be it the fiscal cliff, the shutdown, and now this, he has always been on the Republican side thats caved...CID1990 wrote:The funny thing is that the Dems know they can get this stuff through right now because the GOP wants to avoid another shutdown (and the blame for it), so the Dens are going to push a lot of this stuff through. There's 2 lines the Republicans should have held: maintaining the so called cuts under sequestration and no raising taxes (fees, same thing). They caved on both.

Nice.
No one is dying for a "cause" these days. Our kids are dying for big companies' profits. OBushma is keeping us in Affy in order to give his new found business friends extra money. That is it. There is no big Taliban threat...our own generals have been telling us that for years. We got Osama. There is no huge AQ threat there either. But, there are minerals...and corrupt warlords...lots of them.
If anyone is stupid enough to sign up for the military, then they will get treated as any other disposable employee of a business...except they are deciding to send themselves into danger zones when they volunteer.

Re: Senate donks vote to cut military pensions
Maybe it's true but it seems like a stretch (and Cleets is good at doing that to provoke). If his dad was a colonel I'm sure he gets a good pension but pay in 1980 for a colonel was around $3100 a month. Even with COLAs on the pension I don't see how it can be $7,200 a month. And it definitely hasn't been $7200 a month since he retired.Grizalltheway wrote:Why? Cleets' dad was colonel or something like that IIRC, and 20 years is pretty easy to attain by 42.HI54UNI wrote:

If the colonel has worked 20 years, then the government would calculate the retirement benefit at 50 percent of their base pay. If the colonel was to retire after 22 years, then there is a multiplier that is used. For every year in service over 20, the colonel receives an additional 2.5 percent. The maximum is 75 percent of their base pay at 30 years. So, at 30 years, the base salary of $10,736.70. Multiply that by 75 percent, and it equals $8,052 per month.

Keep in mind that his dad would have retired from the military in 1980. A colonel's pay in 1980 was $3100 a month. If his dad joined at 18 and retired at 42 that is 24 years of service so he would get 60% of $3100.Ibanez wrote:http://military.answers.com/military-be ... s-military" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The retirement benefit is based on years worked and rank.
