No, the WTO does. But China obviously doesn't care.

Could the former mouth of the Communist Party know what they're talking about? Maybe. This op-ed piece seems to think otherwise, as the Pravda opinion writer is a known conservative. The President has been endorsed by the US Communist Party in the past, but that is not proof, either.

Personally, I believe that he is at least a closet Socialist, but proving it would be like the Birther thingie: probably not going to happen.

And would have a problem with him if he is a Socialist?

So was Eisenhower a communist when the tax rates were 91% and he built the interstates using public funding? How about the GI Bill?
I think that there is an element of Marxist thought in the idea of a progressive income tax system; and I think a 91% marginal tax rate especially reflects the spirit of the "from each according to his ability and to each according to his need" slogan Marx popularlized.

Don't know if Eisenhower was the cause of the 91% marginal rate though. I think building interstates is a legitimate function of government. It's part of doing what I think government should do: Provide the basic infrastructure within which the society can function. It's not the same as trying to ensure the well being of each individual.

I think the GI Bill can be viewed as compensating military personnel for their service. That, to me, was not a something for nothing thing. Military personnel were not and are not paid a whole lot And sometimes, such as during World War II, a lot of them really go through Hell. I see nothing wrong with government making something like what they got through the GI Bill part of their compensation. It's not paying for somebody's college just because they exist. They actually had to have done something to earn what they got.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

That wasn't 50/50. Most people realized it was highly likely the taxpayers were going to eat a huge loss on the GM bailout. I'd say more like 90/10.

But at that point, 11-12 months ago, GM had repaid 50% of the debt. There weren't any warning signs to suggest that they might not repay the remaining amount. Just that that the GOVERNMENT might sell its share. So it's the Gov't that is wasting the $10B, not the fact that GM is not paying or refusing to pay it's debt.

Did that make sense?

Having all that said, The gov't sold it's stake in the company (how capitalist of them) but does that necessarily mean GM is off the hook? I don't remember all the stipulations of repayment.

If so, then our government is the absolute worst at making deals.

For the love of Pete
Does anybody on here know what communism actually is...?

Try wikipedia for starters - you know - just to get the basic definition correct

This thread has been like listening to Glenn Beck explain what a Nazi is

Obama isn't a communist or a socialist. Commies, generally, do NOT authorize the bailout of public companies and then allow control of those companies to slowly revert back to the public. :coffee:

Commies, generally, run everything as an agent of the state.

Sure...
There's also the key distinction in conversation about Communism
1) Are we talking about communism in theory (what it is on paper)
2) Are we talking about historical examples of communism in practice (true commune society)
3) Are we talking about dictatorships / junta's / Factions / Gangs that call themselves Communists yet are 100% the ruling elite funneling all funds and resources into their control

we gotta establish the ground rules of the conversation first... communism is an old word
with a long history - it means many many things

Conks don't understand that, Chizzie. If Rush or Hannity or Mark Levin says someone is a "Communist", they're a Communist. Case closed.
