Sorry JSU, but EWU is going to roll.

No easy shit in this game. Baldwin is looking for statements here on out.

JSU matches up well to pass-first teams & they're playing surprisingly well lately, so Eastern's in for a battle here. This one should come down to how well EWU runs the ball & how well they stop the run. I think the Eags will win, because they've shown a bit more versatility in recent weeks, but it'll be surprisingly close to a lot of people.

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- Eastern Washington

        Running Backs - Jacksonville St.

        Receivers/TEs - Eastern Washington

        Offensive Line - Eastern Washington

        Defensive Line - Jacksonville St.

        Linebackers --- Jacksonville St.

        Secondary ---- Jacksonville St.

        Kicking ------ Jacksonville St.

        Punting ------ Jacksonville St.

        Return Teams - Jacksonville St.

        Kickoffs ------ Eastern Washington

        • Jacksonville St. 27-31 Eastern Washington

How is EWU pass first?
On the year, we have 443 pass attempts, 452 rush attempts. It just so happens we're extremely effective with both (15.5 yard per catch, 5.2 yards per rush). :coffee:

EWU has 51 pass TDs, only 17 rush. I call that pass first. That is a low ratio of attempts to scores to be called balanced or effective. Granted, it is not all about scoring, but it would be great to see more production.

All I am saying is that with a team at level they play, you want to see more scoring production. They have over 2300 yards and 5.2 yac, but they don't have the scoring production with the run game to be considered balanced. They are a pass featured team.

Oh. Well I suppose you could look at it that way.

Then again, we have already broke the BSC records for total TD's, passing TD's, and total offense, and we are 11 yards from the passing yards, and 11 points away from the conference scoring record. We've done this despite running it more than we have thrown it. I suppose we could have seen more rushing scores, but a good chunk of the passing TD's came from outside the 10 and quite a few from outside the redzone. You cant exactly run it in when those pesky receivers keep making plays ahead of you.

Regardless, I fail to see where you've made the case that our run game isn't "effective" or that we need to do much of anything in the "production" department.

I just wanted to interrupt and say that Domino's deep pan pizza, in the black box, is actually quite good.

Their Italian Sausage and Pepper Trio Artisan pizza, however, an absolute disappointment to anything that would attempt to call itself a pizza. :ohno:

You can clearly see there's been more rush plays than pass plays. (Damned near equal) That alone proves the offense is balanced. Your theory is debunked on many levels. Worry about Mr. West.

Here's the deal, an outsider can't look at EWU's stats and think they have it figured out. This is the most balanced offensive EWU team I can remember and the running game only seems to get better every time out. It's doubtful that you've watched enough EWU games to think you've got it all figured out. At the same time, I can't look at EIU or JSU's stats and think I've got them figured out. But if you think anyone can simply take away our passing game and win, you're wrong. 1.) You'd be more successful shutting down our running game first, not allowing EWU to spread the field, and make EWU beat you through the air. 2.) Good luck shutting down the passing game no matter what. 3.) The only way any team will beat EWU this year is by outscoring them in a shootout (outside maybe NDSU, who has the best chance of slowing down the EWU offense).

The only time I've seen a team make EWU look silly and incompetent, it was the semi final game last year (1st half) and 4th game of the season this season...both against SHSU. EWU still scored 42 and 34 points in those games. And maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think any team left in the field of 8 has guys like Bell, Flanders, and the effectiveness to run that type of offense with that kind of success. If there is, I will be the first one to say I was wrong.

Thanks for the update Cluck. I'm not familiar with the "black box". What is that all about?

And that really IS disappointing about the Trio Artisan. Is there anything specific about it that you did not like or was it disappointing overall?

Sure, the plays calls are similar, the production is not equal. Seventy percent of your touchdowns come from the pass. For comparison sake only, EIU (with similar passing numbers) has a 56% passing touchdown to overall touchdown rate. Their plays more run than pass as well (563 rush to 557 pass). Rushing touchdowns account for 36% of EIUs touchdowns versus 23% for EWU. Play calling alone is not balance.

And I know all about scoring plays outside of the redzone and breaking records. Been watching it all season with that other Eastern team you don't recognize. Great game tonight with a tough matchup. Just hate I can't be there.

Yeah. I wish those pesky receivers would have allowed the Griz to complete some of those 5000 missed tackles so they wouldn't have scored, allowing the running backs a few more tries at the goal line. Fuckin' receivers....so greedy. :ohno:

I provided one earlier which you failed to answer. Percentage of rushing to passing TD's as an indicator of balance, lack of effectiveness, and production on a record setting offense might be the most irrelevant "stat" ever. I think EIU might have a better offense than EWU but yeah...you keep on looking for those chinks. :thumb:
