My favorite game of the rivalry.

September 27, 1969: “One of the most dramatic comebacks in college football’s 101 years,” claimed Philadelphia Bulletin writer Frank Brady. The Wildcats trailed at Delaware by 26 points three minutes into the
final period, when quarterback Drew Gordon came in off the bench to hit 7-of-17 passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns.

Villanova beat Delaware, 36-33.

My favorite: Nov 18, 2000 @ Newark.

Nova behind Brian Westbrook takes a seemingly commanding 35-10 second quarter lead. After halftime it's all Blue Hens, shutting down Bugs Bunny & scoring the last 32 points of the game, punctuated by a Ricardo Walker 100-yard INT return for a Delaware 59-42 victory.

Oh yeah! My first memory of a Cat game was not as happy an occasion. My dad took me to the Liberty Bowl in 1962 (I was 7) where we lost to Oregon State who had Heisman trophy winner Terry Baker. Our fullback Billy Joe (NY Jets) scored in the 4th quarter to seemingly win the game but the referees intervened and called the play back. No youngster here. Long time (suffering at times) Cat fan.

Why "bugs bunny"?

I guess you weren't a big Looney Tunes fan. There was a famous cartoon where Bugs plays baseball against a team all by himself, Pitcher - Bugs Bunny, Catcher- Bugs Bunny, 1st Base - Bugs Bunny, etc etc. It was more a compliment to Westbrook than anything else but running, catching the ball out of the backfield, returning kicks - it was the biggest one-man show in football at the time.

Ok. let's get some spirit into this game Hen fans! Bball game and Football games coming up this weekend. I'm willing to give 25 points combined in the two games. Let's make the bet two tickets for the Battle of the Blue next year or an equal monetary contribution to the winner's charity. Any one willing to play?

The combined line will be higher than 25. UD's best hoops player is suspended & not playing.

Not much fervor at all for this game from either side, sad commentary on the state of both programs. There will be more empty seats than seats taken this Saturday.

This IS pathetic. When I found this forum the De. posts were about how they were likely getting into the playoffs and when I started posting you were sure you were in and Nova was out and overrated. Maybe I should check the Bball line. Not looking to steal money here. Just a good natured wager.

Will never forget watching an end of the year tribe vs. Villanova game in westbrook's senior year. The tribe won to advance to the playoffs. I think the final was 43-39. It was the greatest fcs performance I have ever seen by a player. Westbrook had close to 400 yards and got a standing ovation from the tribe fans at the end of the game. He just ran out of time that day. Neither defense could make a stop and the tribe had the ball last.

Everyone knows Nova is both out & over-rated, that is not in question after 10 games.

The game was 2001 and the final was 47-44. I imagine the pregame will heat up as the game draws closer. Delaware has a good shot for the playoffs with a win.

It would be a pretty big upset but yes I agree if they win they have a good shot. As you can see from the last few days they don't have much hope themselves. The Cats will be in if they win and get some help.. More posters here now that understand the changes. CAA posters not so much. But, I know if I were you I might not be admitting it either since it isn't your strength like Nova's. You need to win to get in. 5 losses for you or the Hens and you are eliminated. Richmond with a three win skein won't be as easy as expected a few weeks ago.

Any teams with weak schedules and 4 losses are also in danger.

Nova's National rep won't hurt either. I think the committee changed the formula to get teams like Nova and Northern Iowa into the dance.

Just my opinion.

While the "nova wins and gets help and they're in" schtick is technically correct, when the help involves other teams turning down playoff invites or having their teams suspended or disbanded and therefore not able to field a team in the playoffs, then it's not really a realistic viewpoint.

UD's likely in if they win, but as we've seen all season, it wouldn't be a very long playoff run for the Hens - they just don't have it this year. And even if the Big Sky decides to skip the playoffs this year and nova gets in (again, technically possible but zero percent chance of happening) nova's run would be similar to last year when they got taken apart by Stony Brook in the first round. When you lost 5 game before October is over you generally aren't a very good team. The lack of people at PPL this weekend will be because people know neither team is much to write home about this year.

Everyone is certainly entitled to an opinion, but some are better than others. This is not the case here.

Always look forward to banging helmets with the despised wildcats. Pretty even teams I believe, should be a good, entertaining game. While a win keeps us in the running, I have to believe losing two straight games at home when a playoff berth was there for the taking is going to be what keeps us at home this playoff season. I hope I am wrong, but I think if we win saturday we will be the first or second team out come sunday. As for the game, I will say hens 36 nova 33.

I do not believe the teams are evenly matched and the score will reflect that.

Nova 42-24 winner as Robertson gains over 200 yards and scores three touchdowns.

That 11.5 point spread backs up what I have been saying all along. Nova is a superior team and the experts know it. Hope they're right and hope the committee takes note as well.

Let's make these playoffs be between the best teams not an "inclusive field" of feel good no hopers.

I finally figured it out. This is like those Ford commercials. I would rather make the playoffs about teams that played a good schedule and won their games. Not teams that played a good schedule or won their games. And is better.

You have your opinion, I have mine. If you and the "experts" are so knowledgable, you would know the old axiom that good teams win close games. Your wildcats fail that test miserably this season. If you read my posts through out this thread, you will see that I acknowledge the talent level of this years villanova team, and despite that fact your team may be the most dissapointing team in all of FCS football. You can delude yourself all you want, and the commitee may throw you a bone by mentioning villanova as an afterthought if you manage to win saturday, but you guys won't even sniff a playoff bid this year. I have also said that even with a blue hen win on saturday I don't believe we are going to get a bid either, but you are fooling yourself if you think that anybody but big blue is playing for a playoff spot saturday. The only thing you guys are playing for is pride and the chance to be a spoiler.

I wouldn't be surprised if Robertson puts up over 200 yards rushing and nova still loses. D is weak this year.

And quite frankly, I don't want nova in the playoffs. They didn't earn it IMO.

Hard for me to get any lather up for the Nitttany Lions anymore, but enjoy. Suspect you aren't the only Nova football fan that feels like you do. I attended all of the home games this year and the BC game too. They really didn't get any breaks on some of those close losses but I get your disappointment. Fordham and UNH games were heartbreakers. Losing Rahman and Price and half the linebacking corps didn't help either but injuries are part of the game.
