Three Southland teams in the top 10 and I think this poll has their order right. Too bad there's a HUGE asterisks by Sam Houston State. Without their starting quarterback they're not the team that did what put them in that spot. In fact it's possible they still would've beaten Southeastern if he'd not been injured.

But from what I saw from the two backups they tried they're not anywhere close to the same team without him. Of course they were behind and maybe it'll be different if they can just focus on running the ball from the start of the game and try not to get behind. But they've got two freshmen with no experience to choose from at that position now and unless you're really lucky that's not good.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

I guess it's the way they beat Eastern Washington while rushing for 450 yards at 8.3 yards per carry.

And, to tell you the truth, until their starting QB got hurt that game at Southeastern Louisiana could've gone either way. And that's in spite of the fact that they made a lot of mistakes such as dropping an easy TD pass then throwing an interception a couple of plays later that was returned to deep in their territory.

Bottom line though is that they did lose that game and when you look at their overall body of work that Eastern Washington win is the only thing they have going for them.

Could be they'll beat Central Arkansas when they have a chance to put in a game plan with whichever freshman quarterback they'll be playing. But it'll be interesting to see if they can do it on the road against a decent team.

They end with 6 wins over counters at most...

Lost to every good team they played receipt EWU...which is a good win.

They beat up on a schedule that makes the PFL look tough

They did that the previous two years as well, but still made it to the championship.

John, they were not going to beat us, even if Bell hadn't gotten hurt ... we took over the game with the drive to end the half, and dominated the line of scrimmage the rest of the way. No doubt they would have stood a much better chance had he not gone down, but they weren't going to stop us had we needed to match them score for score. We went conservative once we was out of the game, and didn't take any chances. We did pass on a field goal opportunity and dropped what should have been an easy first down catch on a 4th down late, but other than that, we were milking clock. Not to mention we had a punt return for a TD called back and didn't score on 4th and goal from the 2 in the first quarter.

As for them beating UCA without Bell? Having played them both in back-to-back weeks, they're gonna have a tough road I'm afraid. UCA will move the ball on them and score some points ... not sure they can do the same consistently vs UCA without a credible passing game. Plus UCA's front four is very good, and could have their way with Sam's O-line, which isn't that strong.
