Do you honestly believe SHSU let off the gas in the playoffs last year and your comeback was a fluke? Or did your team make some changes to stop them defensively to get back in the game?BlackFalkin wrote:AZGrizFan wrote:

First, never answer a question with a question. (Basic humanities 101)
But I didnt see that EWU SHSU game last year so I cant say, nor does it matter bc they are two separate events.
Anyone watching or listening to that EWU UM game could tell EWU tried to play conservative and protect that lead and it began to cost them immediately. I would tell you if Montana did something to change the momentum , which they did by capitalizing on the conservative play calls.. but the catalyst, however, was the conservative play call which isnt EWU's style at all. Now Montana gets all the credit in the world for fighting back but if you rewatch the game Montana still chocked the game away at the end. At the end of the day EWU was the better team that day.

So by that same standard, SHSU didn't let off the gas in the semi's last year since they continued to run the ball. STFU.Grizalltheway wrote:Throwing the ball =/= playing conservatively. End of story, STFU.BlackFalkin wrote:

Re: #4 MSU at #3 EWU Game Thread
I've not ever said EWU wasn't the better team. But, I've also watched the game 3 times and EWU's play calling got MORE aggressive in the 4th, save for ONE possession where they ran, ran, got a dead ball foul, completed a short pass and had 3rd & 16 and ended up punting. EWU didn't go into a prevent defense, they got more aggressive in their play calling, they continued to blitz, etc., etc....but it didn't work in the 4th like it had worked in the 3rd...shit happens, just like the 3rd quarter was forgetful for the Griz, the 4th quarter was forgetful for the Eagles. And the end result was a 5 point win. I'm just not sure why EWU's 21 point run is any different than UM's 21-point run....it's called football. I hope we have another chance at EWU in the playoffs.BlackFalkin wrote:AZGrizFan wrote:

Well you arent an EWU fan so maybe you cant identify EWU's attempt to "play to protect the lead and gtfoh" as easily as all these eag fans, Larry Weir and Beau Baldwin.
About that SHSU game... SHSU got the win on the road in a tough place to play. Good for them, didnt amount to anything for em but an ass kickin. Your point?

Just to clarify we arent saying the Eags started playing conservative THEN CONTINUED TO PLAY CONSERVATIVE.. We're saying the catalyst for the valiant comeback was conservative play by EWU. If you cant concede to that you dont understand momentum.AZGrizFan wrote:BlackFalkin wrote:

I'm watching the game again right now, just for shits and giggles. 1st QTR, very even. 2nd and 3rd QTRs were dominated by Eastern. Montana owned the 4th. I guess that's why they play 60 minutes.
Cooper Kupp is very good.
Lining up LB's against WR's that run a 4.4 isn't a very good defensive strategy.
One thing I didn't notice before was some of the exchanges between VA and a few of the UM defensive players. Let's just say Tripp absolutely deserved that down-field block Adams put on him. Him and Wagenman were trying to twist ankles after a couple tackles and Adams was still on the ground. Earlier in the game after one such play by Tripp, Adams points at Tripp as to say "Ok, I got you". I'd be willing the bet that's where the ear-holing came from.
Now, on to the 4th QTR.

Watching first EWU offensive series of the 4th now. 1st down, total dumbass personal foul penalty by #77 makes it 1st and 23. Run, stuffed. Milk clock, another stuffed running play. 3rd down, short completion to Kupp. Punt.

Dont be silly, Beau secretly called for the cheap shot so the penalty would give him an excuse to let off the gas cuz it's impossible to dig out of 1st and 23.AZGrizFan wrote:The one and only "conservative" possession, driven as much by the idiotic penalty as by any thought of going all conservative.EWURanger wrote:

So after watching the entire game, I think talent-wise, both teams are fairly even. I think a poor offensive strategy in the 2nd and 3rd quarters hurt Montana.
It was a nice come-back for UM in the 4th. Lots of dumb penalties on EWU in that period that really hurt them on offense. Real dumb kick return snafu which gave EWU bad field position on its second the last drive.
Seriously felt bad for Bo Tully on that INT and that hit Forgette put on him.
Horrible call with 5:13 remaining in the game that would have extended an EWU drive and probably decided the game earlier. Was definitely a completed pass.
Michael Roos is a big mo-fo.

He's a good player, and is incredibly fast, but has had a couple ST snafu's the past couple of years. The kickoff return TD against UND last year where he dropped the ball before he passed the goal line comes to mind. So instead of a TD, we get the ball on the 1YL and get three running plays stuffed and have to settle for a FG.
