I don’t give a fuck who created it. If Massachusetts wants to have a state run healthcare system then good for them. I don’t live there so I don’t care since it doesn’t impact me. However this Obamacare debacle does impact me so now I have to care. Clearly this administration is incapable of developing a nationwide government supplied healthcare system (let alone a fucking website for it). Maybe this sort of thing should be left up to the states to figure out if they so choose to do so.

The Obama administration insists nobody will lose coverage as a result of cancellation notices going out to millions of people. At least 3.5 million Americans have been issued cancellations, but the exact number is unclear. Associated Press checks find that data is unavailable in a half the states.

Open enrollment period at my job, I don't have to fill out anything since I'm already in the system as a FT employee (which is becoming more and more rare here), but the "ACA-compliant" changes are as follows:

- weekly deduction increased from $60 to $64 (employee with children)
- deductables increased from $1,200 total to $3,500 per person
- copays increased to $35 well visit, $100 specialist, $250 ER
- In-network coverage decreased from 80% to 70% across the board.
- ZERO out-of network coverage.

The last part really screws me because my daughter lives out of state (Michigan) and there are no in-network doctors in the area she lives.

Open enrollment begins today. I just did the math and i'm not too displeased. I'm paying an extra $93 a year ($7.75/mo. (%2.1 increase)) to maintain the same plan. There is a new, voluntary feature, that starts at an extra $20/mon. but i don't think it's important. Copays have stayed the same. There is a new prescription plan but the copays haven't changed.

Question: since i'm paying for maternity leave for both my wife and I, do you think some husband will sue to use that as paternity leave? Do you think a single man will sue to use it?

Looked over our options and not a whole lot of change this year, mostly because the changes were done last year in anticipation of the ACA. I'm on a catastrophic plan with an HSA so I don't think my direct costs will increase much.

So I should support a bad idea even if the impact on me isn’t nearly as bad as it is on everyone else? Go ahead and keep spinning the ACA boondoggle all you want, I need someone to laugh at.

Being at an employee owned company means the lions share of the cost difference comes out of the profit margin to lessen the impact felt by employees. This results in fewer bonuses and raises, smaller budgets for training and other career development opportunities.

I’m in a fortunate position but this also doesn’t change the fact that millions of other people will get hammered by increased costs. This also doesn’t change the fact the ACA will have an impact on the economy and that it will add another mountain of debt on top of the trillions already incurred by this and previous administrations. My year over year increase is just over $15 a month, or $1500 a year. That’s $1500 less going into the local economy via nights at the bar, trips to the movies, dinner, hookers and blow, trips to wine country, etc…also means the wifey and I will be cutting back around the house on services we don’t need (goodbye cable, it was a fun 6 months while it lasted).
