A Good Example of Liberalism Degrading the Culture
The effort to overcome "Mountain Pride" and get people who believe in relying on themselves to "give in" and get on the government dole. Liberal, Progressive, whatever you want to call it. It stinks. It really does.

Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Re: A Good Example of Liberalism Degrading the Culture
Deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, government officials are on the hunt. Unlike most government agents who've taken to these hills, however, they aren't searching for moonshine stills. They are tracking down folks who refuse to accept food stamps.
"President Obama has made the expansion of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program -- that's the fancy schmancy name for the food stamp bureaucracy -- a key component of his presidency.
For a change, Obama has largely succeeded in something he set out to do. In 2008, when Obama was elected, 28 million Americans received food stamps. Today, 46.4 million people are on food stamps -- almost one in six Americans. That expansion comes with a hefty price tag to taxpayers. Food stamps are expected to cost upwards of $80 billion this year.
Surprisingly, this isn't good enough for the Obama administration. In an effort to make even more Americans reliant on government handouts, local social workers are being offered rewards to encourage them to sign up additional new food stamp recipients. The Department of Agriculture, which manages the food stamp program, is also spending up to $3 million in radio ads aimed at enrolling more Hispanics and working poor on food stamps, according to a recent CNN Money report."
Woo-hoo! Progress!
WTF? The government is ACTIVELY seeking to expand its programs? As if we need more bureaucracy?
This cuntry is a joke.

Wow - making sure Americans get fed is so BAD!
Damn, I want my country full of starving kids the way God intended them!
And damn it, where are my child-labor sweatshops!!!
And orphanages??? You used to be able to pluck 30 kids out of an orphanage, get them to make clothes for pennies, while I raked in the dough. Now, we have to rely on Bangladesh for our sweatshop orphanage kids.

I think you missed the part where the people that the government wants to force this shit on are being SELF-SUFFICIENT i.e. they don't need the government tit to suck on.dbackjon wrote:Wow - making sure Americans get fed is so BAD!

I fail to see where this would offend but, hey, I've been wrong before.

They are some of the last Americans with limited means who choose to spend their money on food instead of bling. I'd be right there with them if I was in their situation.
BTW if you are worried about Scots Irish Appalachian children starving, I can send you the names of a couple narrowly targeted charities that focus on them. I donate every year.

The point is that this country was built by people who believed in self-reliance. A pride. A dignity. Liberalism is destroying that. It just sucks the life out of the character of the population. And it's being very aggressive about it.

That is indeed a feeble, close minded view of liberal thinking.

Please do. Majority of my giving is this type of work - low to no overhead, money goes directly to those in need

Meh indeed. If these people are as proud and stubborn as they claim to be, I don't think they're going to let some soft-spoken social worker convince them to accept government assistance. $3.98 per year for FEMA
$22.88 per year for unemployment insurance
$36.82 per year for food stamps
$6.96 per year for welfare
$43.78 per year for retirement and disability for government workers, civilian and military
$235.81 per year for Medicare
$4,000 per year for corporate subsidies
