I have been self-employed since 2004 and providing my own insurance. In my mind there is definitely a need to reform the system, attack costs and make health care more affordable. From 2004-2013, my insurance premium has gone up approx. 2.5 times of what it was initially, or an average annual increase of 10.75%.

The affordable care act does nothing to reduce costs, but actually increases costs. This is being passed along to me through increased premiums.

Even though I am older and should be getting subsidized by younger insureds under the theory of shared expense in the Affordable Care Act, my premiums are going up by 33% from 2013 to 2014 to grant me insurance that meets the ACA Obamacare criteria (my 60 year old wife, who has had a hysterectomy no longer needs to worry about an uncovered pregnancy for instance), or 3 times the the average annual increase of the last 9 years.

I don't want to deny health care to the poor or the sick, I want it made more affordable for all.

The people who couldn't afford it before can't afford it now, Jon. If that's what the goal
Is then we would have been better off just expanding Medicaid. This was nothing more than a "let's make up something to say for the campaign" debacle and you'll be probably the last rooster in the stump denying it.

Honestly, the numbers yesterday were 1 million have registered for the site. The number that have actually purchased insurance is probably much less.

If was anywhere close to a million, the woman who testified before a House committee today would have shouted it loud and clear, instead of refusing to answer the question...

Faux News provided that number

I had a very high deductible catastrophic plan that didn't cover well visits, etc. I didn't need that because I can afford to pay out of pocket for that sort of thing and professional coutesy took care of most medical needs that didn't involve hospitalization. But now I have to buy a policy that covers things that I usually don't even have to pay to have done. :dunce: I realize that I'm the exception to the rule, but why would they force me to purchase coverage that I so obviously don't need? According to the rate charts, I'm gonna end up paying at least twice what I was paying. Kinda sux.
Tough shit. I'm gonna be unemployed (by choice, just taking a break) in a couple months and I need all kinds of health insurance and ACA will provide it, waaaaaaay cheaper than COBRA and PHI.

THAAAAANK You high earner! I'll be sure to send you and your boyfriend some baked goods for the holidays. :thumb:
