Possibly, Hen, but I'm gonna come down on the side of what I mentioned earlier. The opportunity to secure it legally is much more attractive and will beget a more stable condition of getting it here. Plus, perhaps people will begin to bypass the messy border shit by legally growing it on their own?

It's evolving.

There are a lot of things that will have to be worked out. Honest question, do you need a license to grow and sell food now? How about tobacco? I would expect you would need one if you are going to grow to sell pot. If so, would it be illegal for me to have a few plants and sell it to neighborhood kids? Will legal pot growers/sellers be allowed to make their pot as strong as possible? Will we have a problem in my area with deer getting stoned from eating it (they eat every damn plant near my house now)? ;)

Dumb but necessary questions...
1) Obviously growing and selling to the state requires a license
2) Just like beer / you can grow small amounts of pot (2 plants)
3) Home grown pot can NEVER BE SOLD / just like home made beer can never be sold
4) 21 or older / Just like alcohol / Obviously / States rights my apply

I don't think there's any chance in hell it will be legal any time soon. You've got an unholy alliance of police unions, pharma, and private prisons who are all opposing legalization. It's not going to be anywhere near the top issues for voters in coming elections so there is no real motivation to go up against these interests.

I know I'm sounding like kalm here, but there are just too many interest groups who stand to lose something if marijuana is legalized. I don't really know how else you can explain why prohibition continues when the scientific evidence shows it's safer than tobacco, less addictive and toxic than alcohol, and superior to many analgesics that are legal and sold on the market.

Pwns,
Do you really think that policemen don't smoke pot? Two acquaintances of mine, one a Cook County (IL) Sheriff's deputy and the other a suburban cop there, routinely smoke and, acc. to them, many of their compatriots do, as well. Sure, it's hearsay, but, where there's smoke (pardon the pun), there's fire.

Fifteen years or so ago, I asked the Sheriff's deputy why he and his coworkers use green. Said he does it to relax, but he went off in a tangent about how working to enforce drug laws, especially for something as innocuous as marijuana is a life-or-death thing. For weed, his partners are dying and being maimed, all because it is illegal. He makes a good case. Extrapolate that to the rest of the nation and the "danger" of marijuana ingestion pales in comparison to the danger of enforcing laws to eradicate it.

Marijuana is MUCH less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes. Mountains of research on that, too, but no use arguing it here. It's been beaten to death.

Just saying.
Cap'n, you know I'm basically agreeing with you, right? I don't doubt that policemen smoke marijuana. What I am saying is that police unions and prison guard unions have opposed legalization. That's a fact.

First, why if they are necessary, are they dumb? :suspicious:

1) So everyone who grows it illegally now will either stop growing it or get a state license. Not happening.
2) I am unaware of any limits to amounts of homebrew I can make.
3) Homebrew can absolutely be shared.
4) So you are OK with government dicating age, but not the total legality of it. Check.

It's OK if blacks grow it. Just don't ask them to pick it. They will start talking about the slavery days again.

Quick Note:
Here in Redmond a local resident who had 8 large adult Marijuana plants
brought six of them to the State Liquor Control board office and dropped them off
and the Board has said this is happening daily now... (amazing but true)

Presently Colorado allows 6 personal plants
Washington allows none but are not prosecuting anybody with 2 / the law will be modified to suit the states citizens desires / whatever that might be

1) OK Mr Smarmy. How about all the illegal growers who grow to sell now... You honestly believe most of them will either get a state license, stop growing or cut back to two plants?
2) Semantics, unless you are going to argue that people are going to grow them for ground cover and not harvest them.

Why do you think I'm praying for chaos Chizz? :suspicious:
Lots of questions remain for the market outside of how it will be run by the state. Chief among those questions is where will legal marijuana businesses do their banking? Will the federal government allow business tax deductions? Will the Department of Justice help or hinder progress on either of these two fronts?

Not everyone thinks this will be enough stores to combat the black market or meet demand.

Both states are struggling with plans for where people will be able to use marijuana, since public display or use is strictly forbidden.

Outdoor, open use in Denver has become so controversial the city has drafted a proposed ordinance that will make possession of pot illegal again in some areas and levy strict fines and jail time to people caught smoking it or bothering their neighbors with the smell.

People are used to buying pot in the shadows and they really prefer to buy things cheaply, ESPECIALLY when they know "the man" isn't getting a cut.

Pot is not cheap to grow and produce. It's so expensive now because of the risk involved in distributing and selling it illegally.

It's not going to be cheap once you get the states involved GATW.

The states will set the taxes, but only after the FDA, ATF, USDA, NAACP, AAMCO, USPS, LGBT, and any other acronym you can think of, set their "costs" for "approval, enforcement, etc." as well.

I smoked weed from the time I was 16 until I was 48 when I quit. I wish to hell it had been legal and I could have grown my own legally in my yard. I was paying $400+ an ounce for the mongo hydro stuff the last few years I smoked... no telling how much $$$ I dropped (and made) on weed in my life.
