Paulus: Michigan to give him shot at QB
Former Duke basketball player Greg Paulus has been given an opportunity to join Michigan's football team and compete for the starting quarterback job this fall.
Paulus, a former All-American quarterback in high school, visited Michigan's final practice of the spring Tuesday in Ann Arbor. He did not throw or work out for Wolverines coaches.
"There has been an opportunity given there," Paulus said Thursday morning on a conference call with reporters. "I thought it was a really good visit. It was really helpful to get to be on a campus and meet with coach [Rich] Rodriguez and see the system and understand what types of opportunities are out

As I said on another thread - I wonder why Duke football isn't interested in Paulus. If Paulus is good enough for Michigan, he should be good enough for Duke.

I thought this was going to be a thread about Coach Beamer... I guess he's more of a Turkey Gobbler neck though...
Duke doesn't want Paulus as a QB, the coach told Paulus they'd rather have him as a wide receiver

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/art ... gD97JLVF00What he wants to do, of course, is play quarterback. It's unlikely to be at Duke because Thaddeus Lewis will return for his fourth year as the starter.
Duke coach David Cutcliffe, who groomed the Manning brothers into Super Bowl MVPs, said he considered Paulus as a slot receiver. But Paulus' skills — he was one of the nation's top prep quarterbacks in 2004 when he ran the spread for a high school in Syracuse, N.Y. — would seem to create a better fit in Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez's option-read offense than in Cutcliffe's pro-style scheme.
http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2009/0 ... eg-paulus/Cutcliffe said he and Paulus "talked extensively" about the possibility of Paulus joining the football team, but the bottom line was there was "no way" he could come out and try to play quarterback for the Blue Devils after such a long hiatus from the position.
"He's a quarterback at heart, but there was no way he was going to be able to compete and play quarterback for us," Cutcliffe said. "I think that was the deciding factor. Prior to our last six practices, I was going to try to get him out, give him a chance to work at slot receiver. He's a fierce competitor, a great young man. He's been a tremendous basketball player. "
