Gram football has been the cash cow that been sustaining the entire athletic department...you could even argue that it keeps the doors open on the school itself.
It's taboo to even bring it up as a possibility in HBCU circles, but La Tech is REALLY close by...

That might be right. But I'll take it as gospel truth if our resident officiating expert vouches for it. He definitely knows his rules backwards and forwards, and the sport doesn't seem to matter.DSUrocks07 wrote:I think forfeit wins are marked as 2-0SuperHornet wrote:? for clenz: So this gets recorded as a 1-0 win for Grambling's scheduled opponent, correct?

This is why Williams left the first time inferior material!!!! This is the first time in yrs Grambling was mentioned on ESPN.DSUrocks07 wrote:I'd say its a little more than being tough. Terrible. They should just cancel the season & these kids scholarships too. These kids DON'T deserve to play on national TV Thanksgiving weekend. Sends the wrong message "when the going gets tough...quit".
Coach Williams raised PRIVATE money to replace unsafe mats in the weight room and bought the mats himself. Once the Grambling admin found out, they put the unsafe mats back in the weight room and ordered the new ones be locked up in storage since the money wasn't given to the administration to make the purchase.
When you're coach has to basically go in pocket to make the facilities at least somewhat safe, and the Administration throws a hissy-fit because they weren't involved, its a problem.
Yes, playing football is a privilege...but also for the schools as well. But nobody wants to talk about that.

First time Doug left was for money, everybody who wasn't a Grambling fan knew he wouldn't stay. That's his track record, did it all the other three places he coached. He came back because he got fired from the Bucs and couldn't get the Southern job in 2010.

I know it's got a lot of tradition and all but the State needs to just close Grambling. It was necessary in another time but it's really not even needed anymore. And it's a horror show.

Why did he get fired as personnel manager with the Bucs bad decisions!?!? Why would Southern want him as HC??? As stated before he wanted better facilities as well but the admin said no.The weightlifting room &equiptment was beyond outdated!!!tampajag wrote:First time Doug left was for money, everybody who wasn't a Grambling fan knew he wouldn't stay. right now, the game is listed as "cancelled". I wonder if/when it will be officially deemed a forfeit.

Re: Mutiny at Grambling
There are eight other University of Louisiana System universities including three in North Louisiana. Plus there's the LSU system. They'd have places they could go.And where would these other students go??

La Tech is 6 miles awaydal4018 wrote:And where would these other students go??JohnStOnge wrote:I know it's got a lot of tradition and all but the State needs to just close Grambling. It was necessary in another time but it's really not even needed anymore. And it's a horror show.
UL-M is 30 miles away
Southern has a campus in Shreveport, as well as main campus in Baton Rouge and another campus in New Orleans.
Louisiana has too many universities for their size and population - both HBCU and PWC. Same with Mississippi
Re: Mutiny at Grambling
I'm sure I'll get blasted for this....and I don't know the academics of LT or ULM....but....would a lot of the students qualify at those universities?dbackjon wrote:La Tech is 6 miles awaydal4018 wrote:And where would these other students go??

I don't mean that as a slam at Grambling, or the students, however it could be a real "concern"

Re: Mutiny at Grambling
It probably would be a concern. Moreso at LaTech than UL-M. They would have to do some type of programs to transition them.clenz wrote:I'm sure I'll get blasted for this....and I don't know the academics of LT or ULM....but....would a lot of the students qualify at those universities?dbackjon wrote:

The players wrote a letter stating that the athletic complex is in horrible condition and the uniforms are poorly cleaned and this led to players catching staph infections!!!!! Just saw this piece of info on ESPN.Eddie Rob is rolling over in his grave right now!!!!DSUrocks07 wrote:

One of the SU system boardmembers has been pushing for Grambling to be a part of our system. Maybe its time.

He got let go when they made changes in the front office. Some people in power at SU love Doug and the feeling is likewise from him.dal4018 wrote:Why did he get fired as personnel manager with the Bucs bad decisions!?!? Why would Southern want him as HC??? Southern does seem to be in a much better position across the board than Grambling does. At least from the outside looking in.tampajag wrote:One of the SU system boardmembers has been pushing for Grambling to be a part of our system. Maybe its time.

We've had our problems but nothing to this level.
