We do not need to address much in regards to taxation (a little tweaking here and there and a few loophole corrections) but our problem is Spending not Taxing

The fact that we can't seem to run our country on the projected $2.7 trillion dollars of 2013 receipts is ridiculous
in fact we are projected to spend $972 billion more than the $2.7 trillion we're collecting in 2013

Yep. Although I'd probably go a bit deeper in Defense and lighten up on a couple other areas, while eliminating some parts (EPA, Education, HUD, Homeland Security, etc) completely.

I like the idea of across the board cuts as everyone has skin the game at that point and there's no arguing or negotiating what is more important.

I looked at the wiki page on government spending which has some nice graphs on the topic. According to one of these that was produced by the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal in 2011 shows our government spending as percentage of GDP at 38.9% while our tax burden is at 26.9%. This already puts us well below (in both categories) most of the countries that have high standards of living (the outlier being Switzterland.)

What do think the affects would be? Would we become more like Switzerland or Uzbekistan?

I've never understood why it is considered OK to pay a higher percentage if you make more money. Isn't that the whole point of using a percentage? The more you make, the more you pay. Usually when you buy in bulk, you actually get a discount. Can you think of another situation where buying in bulk costs you more?

Hell, the only reason anybody noticed anything during the shutdown (18% cut) was because the Executive Branch focused on things that EVERYONE would notice. Like cutting up to 95% of certain departments. An even keel cut from EVERY segment of 20% would be barely noticeable.

Agreed. Look at the shutdown. Take out the douchey things like closing down parks that didn't need closing and did it really impact the average person? Did it matter that all the USDA farm service offices were closed? All the farmers around here are busy with harvest anyway. Did it really matter that some bureaucrat in the Dept. of Education couldn't start writing some new rule that isn't necessary? Did drug use go up because the 76 different federal anti-drug programs were shut down? The sequester is more proof. It was supposed to be the end of the world and it wasn't.

Normally I would say that an across the board cut is a lazy way out but with all the special interests across the board will be the only to make some meaningful cuts.
