You do know that in the early 20th Century, the party platforms began to switch to the point that the Democratic Party of 1860 most closely resembles the Republicans of 2013 and vice versa. Obviously, an idiot made that poster. Democrats used to be for small gov't but it wasn't until the early 30's did they start turning around with the election of FDR (and we all know how he felt about Big Government.)

Here is a recent article you might enjoy.
Clearly our current Republicans have a closer connection to the Democrats of the Civil War while today’s Democrats have much more in common with the Republicans of Lincoln’s time.

Again, that was made by someone that has no understanding of American political history and another reason why you shouldn't use some stupid image to try and prove your point.

Democrats, in the 19th century, favored a limited federal government and Republicans favored a strong central government (so much so that they invited war.)

So you tell me, in 2013, which is which?

At Tahoma High School in the nether suburbs of Seattle, it’s totally okay to display a gay-pride flag, but two juniors were suspended for three days for wearing Confederate flags at school.

One is a symbol to expand rights. The other is a symbol of oppression.

You let me know what flags would be appropriate to fly and which ones will be given suspensions....

Really dback? You either tolerate others or you don't....you obviously have your set values and if someone doesn't agree with you they should be banned....how DONK of you

Did the students say they were wearing the flags because they hated gays?

Or were they wearing the flags because they saw other people wearing flags in support of their fellow countrymen and figured they would show their support of their fellow countrymen?

Why are gays and other Liberals so intolerant? :suspicious:
Since when is the CSA still a country? Do you know what the definition of 'countrymen' is? :?
Ok..so if I wear a flag of the USA that is no longer used, I would be suspended as well?

Did I limit the gay pride flag to only U.S. gays? How xenophobic of me.

The U.S. flag is a symbol of oppression to many people. Let's ban it...with the exception of parking lots.

If you fly a US flag with 48 stars you will get a suspension....

Yeah, slavery was tolerated for much longer under the American flag.

It really is irrelevant why they were wearing the shirt. It is a violation of first amendment speech. I'm sure there was a time when the kid with the rainbow flag would have been suspended instead. Suppression of speech we dislike is no less evil if the speech is stupid and offensive. Once again, I am not surprised by the lack of tolerance. I generally find hypocrisy to be a fairly indiscriminate condition. :coffee:
