Yeah? Well that "Reagan couldn't get elected in today's GOP" meme is a bunch of populist liberal crap. I'm just surprised a smart guy like you doesn't see the hypocrisy from the left; where the GOP's last offering in a Presidential election was a guy who is more liberal than Jack Kennedy ever was, and yet Reagan wouldn't get elected? Well Reagan is no Jack Kennedy. By today's Democratic Party standards Jack Kennedy would rank somewhere between Barry Goldwater and David Duke.

So bite my a$& with you guys Reagan obsession. Nobody has a monopoly on breathless unicorn crazy like the Dem party

I didn't know Jeb Bush and Bob Dole were a "bunch of populist Liberals"
Because it came straight out of their mouths

Note:
It upsets you because you know it's true
Just relax, this won't hurt that much - an - nobody has sodomized Reagans rotting corpse more than Republican Party

I'm lukewarm about Reagan's record, but I'm not talking about how he led when he was in office, I'm talking about what he would and did look like as a candidate. The whole concept that he would be unelectable is just stupid to me. It's jingoism and you should know better.

The whole idea is that the GOP conservatives have become extreme. Well that's bullshit. The rest of the country has become more liberal, including deficit spending big government Republicans. If anybody ever bothered to listen to Reagan's radio spots back in the 1960s and 1970s they would hear a charismatic mainstream conservative- a hell of a lot more conservative than Mitt Romney, more liberal than Dick Nixon or Eisenhower, and a wash beside Kennedy.

Jeb Bush and Bob Dole want to look moderate- it's the cool thing to say when you're a RINO. I'm sure you aren't saying that they are the only two people parroting this tired crap, since I hear it from the left constantly- and now you (supposedly a thoughtful guy) included.

I wouldn't take anything Jeb Bush says as gospel but I guess your mileage varies on that one.

1) Nixon gave us the EPA and the Endangered Species Act, Reagan gave us James Watt. :coffee:

2) Reagan was an ACTOR which means he was also adept at sales. Good salesmen sell hope (ha...there's that word).

Chizzy has used the "Walmart as a reflection of America" idea before and to a certain extent so was Reagan. No one likes invasive and regulatory government (including me - I just had a meeting this morning regarding hiring an HR service and the horror stories of ramped up government regulations, L&I and OSHA audits permeating from the Feds through the states has furthered my contempt for the Obama administration).

What Reagan was able to do is sell the idea that we don't need government and trickle down works...to the point that even many donk politicians are buying the overall principle to this day or at least too scared to admit they disagree. But then Reagan also spent a shit ton of money, and provided amnesty for millions of illegal aliens because it benefited his Central Valley California Crony's.

Everyone is a bootstraps, Daniel Boone type of guy until they need FEMA or the SS check and Medicare are threatened. Then...not so much.

He's really quite similar to Obama in certain ways, promising one way and acting in another.

Great rhetoric on big principled ideas like hope and freedom...and... he was an EXCELLENT actor/salesman!

Like I mentioned earlier, he would have had success applying his charisma like Obama initially did, but if he was running on his actual record, he'd be in trouble...if the Tea Party retards were smart enough to get his dick out of their mouth, that is...

IMO that is 0bama's greatest achievement. He was able to mobilize an army of the ignorant and stupid and **** this country at the ballot box not once but twice... and it isn't just that 0bama got elected, the coat tails extended down the ballot and did even more damage. For example: Alan Grayson was elected to Congress in 2008, lost in 2010, and was elected again in 2012.
Who do you think is voting for all of these Tea Party idiots???
Did you get dropped on your head as a child, Maojeff?

The folks voting for Tea Party candidates are fed up with the quasi-socialists like yourself. They are the last true patriots.

Obama has been THE WORST PRESIDENT in our country's history.

You can spew your Tea Party rhetoric all day, but in the next election, the faux dems will receive their pink slip.

Gotta say, Maojeff...your hyperbole this past week has been lame. :ohno:

I can't speak for other parts of the country but in Central FL the Tea Party events are attended overwhelmingly by small business owners, mixed in with a very strong helping of middle class working families who tend to be over 35 YO. You also see a lot of professionals. In other words, the backbone of the community both economically and socially, the best and brightest, hardly the image the Democrats and their lapdog media have portrayed.

Good post.

Americans have 'leaned' left. They all want big government benefits but trying to keep small government idealogy.......nice try!

Tea Party rallies up here in the People's Republic of Minnesota are your average neighbors. Small business owners, farmers ( ya, guys who reap the benefits of government), working class families and there are some posse comitatus types but they are a very small minority. The Tea Party wants a smaller government that does not spend until the eventual collapse of our country; they are not the wackos that the left media portrays them as. These Tea Party people are the ones that would pull over when you have a flat tire and give you a hand changing it....not give you the finger and laugh and continue driving by....like Capt Cat and houndawg would.

Tea party supporters are: plumbers, electricians, farmers, the guy that owns the mom/pop gas station-grocery store, welders, truckers, construction workers, dentists, doctors......in other words, a cross section of America.

It is sad how this country has become a one of....."what can I get from the government?" What is even sadder is that there is a good % of people on the 'left' that want the gov to take care of everything.....no big business - no small business - just serfs getting their small stipend from the government while we are all in line to get our gov food rations...... :tothehand:

The midwest has a rich history of populist uprisings going back the chataqua's of the early twentieth century.

And believe it or not, there are some fairly rational tea party advocates who argue their case well. Maher had this guy named Matt Kibbe on last week (he's been on several times) who's the head of one the big tea party groups (maybe freedom works?) and he argues his points very well.

That being said, what would a tea party rally look like if the Republicans held spending hostage over something like farm or oil subsidies? Would the small town insurance agency owner who sells federally subsidized crop insurance still show up? Would the Kochs still throw money at it? Would a Northrup-Grummin worker attend if they shut down the government until drastically cut military spending and waste?

It's still the "keep the government out of my medicare mentality".

I'm not a Tea Party 'guy' but they do have some very good philosophies. Government has its function and is very important. I like having most of my food grown here in the USA, so I support the farm program even being a conservative. I have family in the military and we do need to cut military spending.

All I'm saying is that Tea Party people that I know are very good people that would bust their ass to help another person not the wackos that many here think they are. And the gov needs to reign in their spending.
