Medicare is a fucking disaster, and is why we are in this mess to begin with. Believe me, my wife's employer wouldn't take it or Medicaid if it wasn't REQUIRED, dipshit.

Medicare is very suspicious, with damn good reason, of testing companies - a good many of them exist solely to rip people off. Not casting stones at your wife's company, but the fact is that the 50-70% of the companies in that field are NOT run properly, convince people to take unnecessary or useless tests, then try to charge insurers and Medicare rates at 10,000% mark-up over true cost.

Medicare is awesome for my practice, which is one of the five largest in the country in it's specialty. Pays on time, with no hassle.

First, diagnostic testing companies just can't blindly order and run tests out of the blue (there has to be a doctors order), they rarely (if ever) have contact with the patients (you know,in order to "convince them to take unnecessary or useless tests" that the patient can't even authorize or order anyway) then send a bill to Medicare at 10,000% mark up over true cost since Medicare sets the price. Second, the problem is not getting paid for "unnecessary" tests. Is the reimbursement fee schedule being cut by 70%-80% for medically necessary and authorized tests.

I'm so happy Medicare has been so awesome for your practice. Now see if they will let you put the mop and broom back in the closet, and let you work on the managed care side of the business.
