Gov. Rick Perry: Texas Could Secede, Leave Union
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"
An animated Perry told the crowd at Austin City Hall -- one of three tea parties he was attending across the state -- that officials in Washington have abandoned the country's founding principles of limited government. He said the federal government is strangling Americans with taxation, spending and debt.
Perry repeated his running theme that Texas' economy is in relatively good shape compared with other states and with the "federal budget mess." Many in the crowd held signs deriding President Barack Obama and the $786 billion federal economic stimulus package.
Perry called his supporters patriots. Later, answering news reporters' questions, Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.
"There's a lot of different scenarios," Perry said. "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

I really hope Texas secedes and Obama and Congress declare war on them. I will enlist tomorrow. That would be fun as crap. Apache helicopters vs. Texas redneck with Smith and Wesson revolver.

despite what the "save the union" crowd might say, these states can still legally secede. I would WELCOME Southern secession with open arms. My God, talk about a utopia?!!!!!!!!!
And I guarantee Obama declaring war on Texas would put the nail in his little coffin politically speaking.

So why wasn't this guy out there pissing up a storm when his fellow Texan was shoving the patriot act down our throats?

I read a book or short story many years ago (I can't remember which) based on a senerio like this.Skjellyfetti wrote:I really hope Texas secedes and Obama and Congress declare war on them. All the Military assets located in the state stayed and were under the control of the Governor and National Guard of Texas. A good many Texans have been in the military so manning everything was not an issue. A foreign nation (don't remember who) sided with Texas and a long and tense standoff lasted for a while. The bummer of it all is that I don't remember how it ended.

... A group of teens who've escaped the patrols of the Texan national guard band together to form a troupe of vagabond teenage soldiers... wolverines if you will... who fight back against the insane, tobacco spewing gubernatorial villains army with sporadic guerrilla attacks. Though many wolverines perish during the battle, they are eventually victorious when they shoot down the governor at a train station during an attack on Austin. They are immortalized in history when Ozzy Osbourn is commissioned to permanently mark their story in the side of the Alamo.

I think you're right, Z. Been there a couple times and I'm always struck by the apparent lack of zoning laws. Shitty, run down house next to a skyscraper, Mexican tienda next to ultramodern condos, Jose's Brake and Muffler Shop next to the Getty Oil building.

And you'd think their roads were built 200 years ago. They've got enough freeways for 20 million people, but all it does is make it impossible to GET anywhere (particularly if you don't know where you're going) because there's at least one exit ramp for every single PERSON in Houston.Cap'n Cat wrote:AZGrizFan wrote:Having spent the better part of today in Houston, TX, I can tell you with great authority, there ain't SHIT here worth fightin' for. Re: Gov. Rick Perry: Texas Could Secede, Leave Union
My brother had a job opportunity within his company and his choices were in Kansas City or Houston... he was dead set on Houston as we used to visit the Gulf and go boating and fishing with our grandfather as children and teens... after he visited Houston, he called me and said to never... ever... go to Huston. I suppose if you take a gander, you could guess where he is right now.

I've been to Dallas, Houston and Amarillo, and I'm STILL trying to figure out what the fucking big deal is about Texas? Can somebody explain it to me? Fucked up traffic, fucked up weather, rude-ass people, absolutely NO elevation change....what a fucking hellhole.

Now, Z, that ain't true. Texas is a very cool state with a lot of good scenery, lots of elevation changes and tons of cool history. To me, it's much like California - it's got everything from seashores to desert and mountains. BTW, D and I lived there for a couple years as kiddos.
You're just snapshotting from a quick visit to one place, brother.

You gotta get out deep into the state. Cap'n Cat is a geography buff and me and Corporal Cat are one day going to explore Texas. I want to see the Llano Estacado and the Hill County - LBJ territory.

Re: Gov. Rick Perry: Texas Could Secede, Leave Union
what would the city-state of austin or san antonio do? since they are outposts of reason and sanity in that hell-hole of a state... they may end up like West Virginia... and so would begin the "Austin Airlift"...
btw... I can short-version this for you... Some guy named Sherman gets another group of Viking-descendants together, burns a two-bit rail center (Dallas this time) and marches to the sea.
btw... a fun little call and response game...
the south will rise again!... and the north will whoop your ass again!
