Props to Rand Paul

Post by Skjellyfetti »

Testifying before Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday:
If I told you that one out of three African-American males is [prohibited] by law from voting, you might think I was talking about Jim Crow, 50 years ago. Yet today a third of African-American males are still prevented from voting because of the war on drugs. The war on drugs has disproportionately affected young black males. The ACLU reports that blacks are four to five times more likely to be convicted for drug possession, although surveys indicate that blacks and whites use drugs at about the same rate. The majority of illegal drug users and dealers nationwide are white, but three-fourths of the people in prison for drug offenses are African American or Latino.

If you don't put the negroes in prison for drug crimes, you'll eventually have to put them in prison for violent crimes against whites.

Just think of prisons as Section 8 housing.

Barring felons from voting is hella stupid. It's hypocritical how we act like voting is a sacred untouchable right and that the more voters we have the better (no matter how many willfully ignorant people will be voting) while on the other hand we act like our laws and justice system are so infallible that it can determine whether or not someone should lose the right to vote for life.

If there's anything disenfranchising black folks, it's this and not voter ID laws. :tothehand:

I don't know the answer so here goes...Not all but most: If you are a felon, is voting high up on your priority list?

To quote my late Dad, "If you're not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about."

Each and every one of the drug dealers and felons in prison knew that the felonious behavior they engaged in was illegal and knew- if not exactly then generally- what the risk and potential consequences of that behavior was prior to engaging in it, yet they chose to engage in it and now bear the consequences of their choices and actions.

No pity here whatsoever...

Well, the survey Rand Paul is talking about (I think) was a survey of over 70k people. That's a big fucking survey that reduces the error you are talking about.

And, yeah... people lie on surveys... especially about things like drug use or abuse.

But, if you are going to disagree with the conclusions you would have to argue that blacks lie more than white people do. If blacks and whites lie on survey at roughly the same rate... it wouldn't change the results of the study and your criticism would be invalid.

Yes Wall Street criminals "know" the same thing...
They get to keep the money and don't actually go to jail at anything near the same prosecution rate

I'm thinking we should treat all criminals the same
