EC v. WC the debate

Post by grizzaholic »

http://www.championshipsubdivision.com/ ... /ec-vs-wc/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So this is something that has probably been discussed, re-discussed, and just for hecks sake re-hashed, well I have been thinking about this-with the recent defections from FCS to FBS of some powerhouse programs has the EC fallen behind the WC? After 8 straight EC championships the WC has claimed 3 straight with no EC team getting beyond the semi’s. The balance of power took a major shift west when perennial powerhouses Georgia Southern and App State announced their impeding departure from FCS, especially with recent resurgence of programs such as UNI, Montana, and Eastern Washington, not to mention the appearance of 2-time defending champ NDSU. This case was very obvious that the WC is superior to the EC when only one team in the top ten was an EC school. The NCAA may have been ahead of the game in moving the national title game away from the East coast and into a more neutral location. Feel free to post your thoughts.

What does Delaware have to do with this and when did quarters become a measuring stick for greatness? You do know the Panthers were 5-6 last year? :?

Face it, the EC, specifically the CAA, got robbed last year.

Towson could have won it all and Richmond, CAA co-champs, lost only to two top 11 teams and UVA.

Utter BS.

The CAA will do some damage this year...if the silly committee gets the right teams in.

What does last season have to do with whether or not they're having a resurgence this year? Griz were 5-6 last year, too, but you didn't seem to laugh about that part of his statement.

I won't argue with the fact that they should have been in the field, but everyone was playing for second last (and likely this) year.

WC(b): We're not always better than the EC(b), but in that small window of time that we are, we act like we haven't been there before.

Everyone's a critic but no one's got the balls to step up and do the job. Anyway So I admit I that I was debating calling UNI a resurgence so to be fair is it a resurgence when you never really left? UNI has had one losing season in 10 years(albeit with no NC) while say an EC team such as deleware-3 losing seasons and two where they were but one game above .500. Now could it be argued the Deleware played in tougher conference ergo higher standards, etc. but it should be noted that in one of their losing seasons Deleware didn't play an FBS team. While UNI's one losing season came in a year of playing TWO. I digress(I picked on Deleware cause well as a UNI fan for the obvious reason, and they volunteered themselves.)

I personally think it is an interesting point, the WC is pulling even if not passing the EC. I can remember the threads on AGS and here asking if the CAA/Socon would ever be beaten. That is why we paly the games.

PC, it's not balls I lack, it's laziness getting in the way. ;)

UNI is not having ANY kind of resurgence. Pick just about any 5 year period since the mid 80's for UNI and they all look the same (good but not great). UNI is one of the borderline elite teams in I-AA, have been for many years. Their lack of NC appearances (1 in 16 playoff appearances since 1985) has kept from them from the highest pedestal.

There were no serious threads on either site that asked if the CAA/SoCon would ever be beaten. If there were, they were either on the smack boards are were said to elicit a reaction from the BSC and MVFC fans. We all know there are ebbs and flows. Right now the CAA is ebbing and NDSU is flowing. Don't forget, that without NDSU, the MVFC hasn't had any more success than somebody like a UNH did during the CAA peak. They were consistently good, but not great. The glaring difference IMO was that it was many teams in the CAA doing the damage (four different NC's and a fifth runner-up). No other conference has been close to that in such a short period of time. That may be one that is hard to beat.

The tide has changed since moving from the East Coast venue. Only 1 western school won at Chatty.

I've been to both venues. Delaware lost one at each and won one in Chatty. I don't think the venue makes one bit of difference. From our perspective, there's not a whole lot of difference between a 1.5 hr plane ride to Chattanooga or a 2.5 hr plane ride to Dallas.

This has to do more with one great team, NDSU, being head and shoulders above everyone else for two years and another team, Delaware, letting a game that was well in hand (19-0 late 3rd Q) completely slip away.

Gil didn't claim it made a difference, just noted the coincidence.

Kinda hard for an EC to win in Frisco when they don't even make it. ;)
