What penalty did Jr. get when he intentionally spun a couple years ago??? Oh that is right, NOTHING.
Ah, you work under the two wrongs make a right theory. Too bad the tracks only turn left. 8-)

ummm..no. I work under the "if you do something wrong you get in trouble" theory. If they did nothing to Jr., why do something to Boyer??? OH that is right, Jr. is a big name so we need to cater to him...just like every sport out there. The rule book is actually book 1 and book 1a. Book 1a is for the super stars and book 1 is for the regular folks.

Yeah...I'm a rather casual NASCAR watcher (I don't even think I'd go with the word fan) and even I can tell that wasn't intentional

The 2004 Bristol day race was the 6th race of the year. Nobody would intentially spin in the 6th race of the year!

Not to mention, Dale Jr. won the second race at Bristol that year.

He needed that caution in that race...But like I said before, he did spun on purpose and even the announcers said so and ZERO punishment from NASCAR. I understand that the stars will get preferential treatment...carry on

You know what? I went back and looked again and listened to the announcer to get the context.

The first time I looked at it, it looked like the car passing him gave him enough aero-looseness to spin him, but yeah this was clearly a spin to get a caution.

Still, it was not a spin that would alter the point standings and it was executed way better than Bowyer's. :D

Surely she is in the top 10 of NASCAR points. Best driver out there - she won the pole at the biggest NASCAR race of the year - that proves she belongs!!

Glad to see that NASCAR have their major storyline fleshed out for the build up to Wrestlemania...I mean the Chase. Bowyer is the monster heel and Gordon is the babyface. the only outcome would be for those to be the main even for the World title....Vinnie Mac would be proud.

Junior fined, docked Cup points for spin-out

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA - Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been penalized 25 NASCAR Nextel Cup championship driver points, fined $10,000 and put on probation until June 1 for intentionally spinning out during Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, NASCAR officials announced Wednesday.

The Dale Earnhardt Inc. team, which fields the No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet for Earnhardt Jr., was also penalized 25 owner points for the actions of its driver.

Earnhardt Jr. was traveling in Florida when NASCAR notified him of the penalties and was unable for comment.

"We regret what this has cost us in our pursuit of the Nextel Cup championship," team owner Teresa Earnhardt said. "In the heat of battle, a lot of things can happen and decisions can be made that come at a high cost.

"It was a mistake we've all learned from and we have to move past it. Our goal is regaining the ground we've lost and continuing our focus on winning."

Earnhardt Jr. was penalized for intentionally causing a caution condition during the race, and as a result was in violation of Section 12-4-A (Actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 12-4-N (Any driver who, in the judgment of NASCAR officials, intentionally causes or attempts to cause a caution condition by stopping or spinning out or any other action) of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Rule Book.

After a pit stop, Earnhardt's car had loose lug nuts on a rear wheel that caused its handling to deteriorate. Earnhardt fell back from leader Kurt Busch until he was only a few seconds from losing a lap.

Earnhardt spun in Turn 2 and radioed his crew that he had intentionally spun out to keep from losing a lap. In numerous post-race media interviews Earnhardt continued to say he had intentionally spun his car to create a caution that prevented him from losing a lap.

"The driver of the No. 8 car was quite vocal in admitting he intentionally spun out his car to cause a caution condition on the track, which is clearly prohibited in the NASCAR Rule Book," NASCAR president Mike Helton said. "We have several rules in our rule book that have been in place for quite some time to prevent someone from altering the outcome of an event.

"This was a clear-cut case of that. Actions such as this will not be tolerated. We will always react to protect the integrity of our sport."

In the 2002 running of The Winston NASCAR all-star race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Kurt Busch spun out Robby Gordon and later said he did it intentionally because he needed a caution period.

NASCAR fined him $10,000.

Earnhardt's adjusted point total of 832 points allows him to maintain third position in the standings, 66 points behind leader Matt Kenseth. Teresa Earnhardt maintains the same differential in the owner standings to Kenseth's owner, Mark Martin.

NASCAR took 50 points from each of the MWR drivers. They put all three crew chiefs on probation. The $300,000 fine is against Michael Waltrip Racing. Ty Norris, who is a big part of the MWR management group and a spotter on race day, has also been suspended indefinitely. Obviously, the other big hit was the No. 56 car driven by Martin Truex Jr. has been bounced from the Chase, and Ryan Newman has taken his place.

Yeah... Thanks for proving my point.

:ohno: :ohno: :ohno: You know damn well if JJ or Jr. or Gordon had done the same the penalty would have been much much less.

Just admit it. The stars get preferential treatment and everyone else can suck it

No difference. They have shown their colors to be the same as any other sport. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

Guess I will have to stick to following the Swedish Women's Curling team. 8-)

NASCAR had to make an example of MWR. This level of manipulation in one race by one team is unprecedented in NASCAR history. I don't think the team matters. The same penalties would have been dished out to Hendrick, JGR, or Roush. This was a multi-car team conspiracy.

Do you consider Bowyer a star, because he's the one who got off light here. Junior got docked points that mattered. Bowyer got docked points that didn't matter. They should have docked Chase points.
