Is it desirable? Yes. Diplomacy trumps war. But, why wasn't this diplomatic avenue exhausted BEFORE we threatened with strikes? That isn't Presidential.
Even Democrats have said that the President stumbled into this more desirable outcome. It's been a rough few weeks for the President, but most of it was self-inflicted. Trying to be Bush Jr. Jr. hasn't been a good move by Obama.

Congress stumbled into a better outcome as well. Now those gutless punks don't have to vote on the issue.

Yes, Obama has had plenty of company in our own government for being impotent in this debate. However, while Congress has acted just as poorly, Obama has the disadvantage of being the face of the US in this debate and he's clearly coming out poorly in all of this. To push as strongly as he did for world action and a military strike, to now having to accept a Russian plan that simply sweeps the issue under the rug is a diplomatic waving of the white flag for Obama. His argument didn't work, he couldn't convince his own population let alone the rest of the world, and now we need to have Russia tell us what's going to happen. This is the biggest coup for Putin since he stole the Super Bowl ring from the Patriots owner.

The funniest thing about this was to watch John Kerry try to spin his off-hand comment the next morning as a "calculated plan" and that it was purposefully said...what a crock of shit. He (and his handlers) IMMEDIATELY started backtracking from the comment, and it wasn't until Russia siezed the opportunity to actually accomplish diplomacy that Kerry, Obama, et. al., started realizing they'd been punked and had to play along.

When you give things to people who are used to handouts it becomes more of an expectation rather than something for which those folks would show their gratitude.

Obama outfoxed the world and conks are left with egg on fat, smirking faces.

You sound like Kerry now, trying to spin Obama's ineptitude into him "outfoxing" the world...
