Two Dems ousted in CO recall elections

"Two Colorado legislators who supported stricter gun control laws lost their jobs on Tuesday in an unprecedented recall election that became the center of the national debate over regulating firearms.

Senate President John Morse and Sen. Angela Giron were both defeated, the Denver Post reported, in the recall effort, which served as a referendum on their support in passing legislation requiring universal background checks on private gun sales and restricting large-capacity ammunition magazines following last year's shooting massacre at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo".

Good. When politicians act without thinking, the deserve to get put out to pasture.

I lived in Colorado during the good old days, when it was solidly conservative/libertarian (except for the People's Republic of Boulder). Colorado became a blue state during the mid-90s when California was destroying itself with extreme progressive policies. Hundreds of thousands of those quiche-eating crunchies moved to red states like Colorado and North Carolina. Now they are trying to implement the same policies in those states that led them to leave California in the first place.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

Pretty interesting to see these two recalled, even with the anti-gun lobby pumping $3 million into the effort, including $350K personally from Michael Bloomberg - roughly triple what the gun freedom lobby spent.

Of course it doesn't...
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a staunch supporter of stricter gun laws, donated $350,000 to Morse and Giron. Billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad gave a separate $250,000 check to help the legislators, while Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) repeatedly issued fundraising calls for Giron in emails to her supporters. The Denver Post reported Monday that those in Morse and Giron's corner had collected nearly $3 million, while proponents of the recall raised about $540,000.

"One thing is clear from the Morse defeat: Mike Bloomberg is political poison," NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said in a statement.

The NRA spent heavily on the recall effort, reporting at least $360,000 and funneling unspecified dollars through its nonprofit arm.

The billionaire conservative Koch brothers also entered the fray, using their advocacy group Americans For Prosperity to target Morse and Giron. Due to the organization's nonprofit status, AFP also did not have to report its spending to the Federal Elections Commission.
And even if it didn't in this case...anecdotal much? Yeah...the brilliant businessmen Kochs were just pissing away their money. :coffee:

I see Obama's poll numbers have fallen
he is at 38%
Imagine if he didn't have the state run media running interference for him

Via Washington Examiner:

A spokesman for Public Policy Polling admitted Wednesday to withholding a poll showing Colorado voters were going to recall State Sen. Angela Giron by a 12-point margin.

The reason, according to PPP pollster Tom Jensen, was that “in a district that Barack Obama won by almost 20 points, I figured there was no way that could be right and made a rare decision not to release the poll.”

When the votes were counted in race, the poll turned out to be on target, as Giron lost by 12 points. “We should have had more faith in our numbers,” Jensen said.

For the record, recalls should be used for malfeasance and crimes in office, not because some herd of jackals disagrees with their views.

Via DNC:

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement in response to yesterday’s recall election of Colorado Senators Angela Giron and John Morse:

”The recall elections in Colorado were defined by the vast array of obstacles that special interests threw in the way of voters for the purpose of reversing the will of the legislature and the people. This was voter suppression, pure and simple.
