NConf Record: 3-8 Overall: 12-11
vs. FCS: 0-1 Overall: 4-2
Best Performance: (#3) Montana St. 30, (FBS) SMU 31 - Some poor results late in each half ultimately cost the Bobcats a big upset, but the far more important issue may be what happened on the game's seemingly meaningless final play.
Worst Performance: Northern Colorado 36, (DII) CSU-Pueblo 41 - I know the ThunderWolves are a good DII, but giving up 4 touchdowns in one quarter to a lower-division foe is not a recipe for making a move in the Big Sky.
Most Surprising Result: Portland St. 30, (FBS) Cal 37 - The Viking defense didn't really show improvement (616 yards), but QB Kieran McDonagh did put up 368 yards of total offense on just 39 combined runs & passes.

Best Performance: Nicholls St. 27, (FBS) Western Michigan 23 - The Colonels didn't do anything real notable statistically, but they nevertheless provided what may have been the most unexpected FBS upset ever.
Worst Performance: Stephen F. Austin 13, (FBS) Texas Tech 61 - Getting blasted by Texas Tech isn't a surprise for an FCS team, but I would expect a squad with SFA's talent to do a little better than losing yardage 731-356.
Most Surprising Result: Nicholls St. 27, (FBS) Western Michigan 23 - Did I mention Nicholls hasn't even won an FCS game since 2010!?

Best Performance: Indiana St. 14, (FBS) Purdue 20 - A decent FCS team playing Purdue close isn't too shocking, but for them to do that without their best player (Shakir Bell) is admirable.
Worst Performance: Southern Illinois 37, (#14) Eastern Illinois 40 (2OT) - It was a closer result than last year, but the Salukis have now been shredded by Jimmy Garoppolo twice in a row.
Most Surprising Result: Missouri St. 14, (FBS) Iowa 28 - Despite getting their asses kicked in nearly every stat, the Bears still managed two touchdowns in a 10-second span that made it a one-score game in the fourth quarter in Iowa City.

Worst Performance: Tennessee-Martin 14, (FBS) Boise St. 63 - I know it's Boise, but I expected the Skyhawks to do a little better here given how the two teams played last week.
Most Surprising Result: Tennessee St. 27, Florida A&M 7 - The Tiger D makes up for QB Michael German's absence by holding the Rattlers to just 156 yards.

Worst Performance: Stetson 13, (DII) Florida Tech 20 - Though the Hatters somehow kept the score close, they were dominated statistically by a fellow startup.
Most Surprising Result: Dayton 23, Duquesne 20 - Dayton beats Duquesne for just the 2nd. time in the past 7 meetings.
In general, this is very good, as per usual. I do find, however, that I must take issue with the best game in the Sky. MSU had a really good chance at beating the Death Penalty School, and a lot of us knew it. NOBODY expected PSU to be anywhere in the same area code as Cal. IMO, THAT was the best game in the Sky....
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

SMU was a bit better than Cal last year.
Remember that the GBs were bad enough to get Tedford fired.

Worst Performance: Lafayette 24, Sacred Heart 26 - Leopards allow 322 rushing yards to a team that went 2-9 last year.

Best Performance: (#24) Coastal Carolina 35, Furman 28 - Chants move to 4-1 all-time against Furman.
Worst Performance: VMI 34, (DII) Glenville St. 27 - The Keydets barely get by a DII team because they hold them to 7 points in 3 redzone trips.
Most Surprising Result: Charleston Southern 23, (DII) Shorter 15 - Following a big win, the Buccaneers narrowly edge Shorter for the second-straight year.
Best Performance: North Carolina A&T 24, (FBS) Appalachian St. 21 - The Aggies only gained about half the yards against App that Montana did, but scoring two non-offensive touchdowns always goes a long way.
Worst Performance: Morgan St. 14, Robert Morris 31 - Bears lose to RMU by one more point than they lost to Army. Of course, that may truly say more about Army than Morgan, but still…

Worst Performance: The Citadel 10, (#16) Wofford 21 - Bulldogs are dominated in yardage & fall to a very disappointing 0-2.
Most Surprising Result: Samford 21, (FBS) Arkansas 31 - Justin Shade gets 10 tackles, 2 TFL, a sack, and 2 forced fumbles in leading a valiant effort by the Samford defense.
* - I know App State & Georgia Southern are still technically in the SoCon this year, but I'm counting them as FBS and as a non-conference opponent for SoCon teams (same idea as Georgia State last season & UMass the year before).
Best Performance: Jackson St. 30, Alabama St. 23 - Neither team was very efficient throwing the ball, but at least the Tigers got some yards out of it—JSU outgained ASU through the air, 281-119.
Worst Performance: Mississippi Valley St. 14, (DII) Delta St. 24 - The Statesmen are usually a good DII, but they were coming off a 3-8 record last year.
Most Surprising Result: Mississippi Valley St. 14, (DII) Delta St. 24 - The Delta Devils still have yet to get a non-conference win in this decade.
Best Performance: Abilene Christian 60, (DII) McMurry 17 - Last week it was the pass, this week it was the run: the Wildcats run for 333 yards and 5 touchdowns on a hapless foe.
Worst Performance: Monmouth 15, Liberty 45 - The Hawks get dominated even worse in Lynchburg than they were against highly ranked Montana State.
Most Surprising Result: (none)
* - Old Dominion is a first-year transitional, so I'm counting them as FBS and not counting them as an FCS Independent.
