FCS over FBS Predictions - Week 3 2013
So far, we have witnessed 11 different FCS teams upsetting FBS teams in the first two weeks of 2013.
Here is the list of such games for September 14: (those games with upset potential IMO are bolded)
WIU at Minnesota
Fordham at Temple - long shot; Temple lost close to Houston.
Youngstown State at Michigan State
Stony Brook at Buffalo - Buffalo lost big to Baylor, and previously to Ohio State.
Cal Poly at Colorado State - after the humiliation by Fresno State, can the Mustangs rebound by putting the Rams down on the road?
Delaware at Navy
Wagner at Syracuse
Northern Colorado at Wyoming
Bethune-Cookman at Florida International - FIU is inconsistent in football.
Southern Utah at Washington State - quite a long shot because Wazzu upset the Trojan Horses using their defense
Northwestern State at Cincinnati
Nicholls at Louisiana (Lafayette) - can the Colonels roll once again against another FBS team? However, Louisiana lost by 21 to K-State who lost to NDSU.
Eastern Washington at Toledo - OK, the Rockets are 0-2 with losses to Florida and Mizzou... and EWU has enough offense for upset potential.
Lamar at Oklahoma State
Weber State at Utah State

All the Ivy League needs to become relevant again is to diversify its OOC schedule.

YSU should keep it somewhat close against Michigan State. Their offense is not that good, but their defense is stacked. Hopefully a 28-14 type game, if not closer for the Penguins.

I don't know that I see ysu putting 2 tds up on that defense

You must've forgot we have coaches with names like Mangino,Stoops, and Montgomery as well as recruits from Florida on our team--with those credentials we should be able to put 2tds on the Steelers.clenz wrote:I don't know that I see ysu putting 2 tds up on that defense

I could see wins form SUU, EWU, Poly, and Stony Brook.
I can't even imagine what Chuckie Keeton is going to do to Weber.. probably roll up 400 yards of total offense on his own.

Have you seen MSU's defense?
I've seen YSU's offense and MSU's defense.
I don't see it staying within 2 scores...I also don't see YSU putting up 2 offensive touchdowns

Re: FCS over FBS Predictions - Week 3 2013
I was told that Michigan State's defense has only given up 100yds rushing in the last 2 games--pretty impressive.MSU's defensive co-ordinator probably hates YSU more than any school in the country because they fired his dad to make room for Jim Tressel--he is still very bitter about that and its understandable since his dad was dying at the time.clenz wrote:False.guinzone wrote: We know.... I don't know anything about the situation, but did they fire him, or not renew his contract, or buy out his contract? why would a team want to keep a dying coach on staff anyway? and if one was dying, wouldn't that individual want time to spend with their family and such?DavedS wrote:MSU's defensive co-ordinator probably hates YSU more than any school in the country because they fired his dad to make room for Jim Tressel--he is still very bitter about that and its understandable since his dad was dying at the time.

Re: FCS over FBS Predictions - Week 3 2013
According to his son Pat who is the current MSU defensive coordinator YSU fired his dad-- who had been the head coach of YSU.Although he had cancer he still was able to perform his coaching duties and was defensive coordinator @ Columbia University when he passed away 3 years after being fired.I guess if you put yourself in his sons shoes,(he was a ball player @ YSU when his dad was let go and wanted to continue playing for him),you might understand why he will never ever forget what YSU did to both him and his father.JayJ79 wrote:I don't know anything about the situation, but did they fire him, or not renew his contract, or buy out his contract? why would a team want to keep a dying coach on staff anyway? and if one was dying, wouldn't that individual want time to spend with their family and such?DavedS wrote:MSU's defensive co-ordinator probably hates YSU more than any school in the country because they fired his dad to make room for Jim Tressel--he is still very bitter about that and its understandable since his dad was dying at the time.

Re: FCS over FBS Predictions - Week 3 2013
Don't know why Nichollls State isn't in bold. To me that looks like as much FCS win potential ans any of the games. The Southland has a winning record in head to head competition against the Sun Belt...though if ULL does win it'll be tied up. Anyway...yes ULL should be favored but it wouldn't be a shock at all to see Nicholls State win.
And I hope they do.

Delaware Vs Navy? I think the Midshipman might blow the Hens out of the water

They should, but you know, that's why they actually play the games.

I-AA vs I-A so far:
Week 1: 8-22
Week 2: 3-33
Total: 11-55
Historically I-AA wins about 10%. This season about 17% so far. Take out 4 wins over the recently transitioned (GST 2x, USA, UMass) and would be 7-55, about 11%. Close to normal.

And every FCS team plays on the road and gives up at least 22 schollies. Pretty damn impressive.BDKJMU wrote:I-AA vs I-A so far:

C'mon, it's not as if this is an unclimbable wall like, say, an FCS Playoff game.DSUrocks07 wrote:Apparently Bethune is FAVORED by 2.5 against FIU this week...

wouldn't it be interesting to see what those percentages would be if FCS teams played FBS teams at home. If EWU played WSU & UW at home EWU would have won both games.
also what are the percentages of FBS teams winning road games against FBS foes? bc maybe 10-17% is the norm.

I believe the Ball State/Illinois State game this year was part of a 2-1 or 1-1 deal....

I'd have to go back and look at the exact timing but it seems like we hosted Idaho @ home after they moved up.BlackFalkin wrote:has any fcs team played an fbs team at home?
