I like Clint Bowyer, but you just can't throw the results in sports without a penalty, unless you're the Chinese Olympic team.ASUMountaineer wrote:Clint Bowyer is awesome!

The "chase" sucks anyway. Playoffs don't work if teams that aren't in the playoffs play in the games. WTF?93henfan wrote:89Hen wrote:I doubt we'll see any change to the 12. Team strategy is one thing, spinning yourself intentionally is disgraceful.
Quite possible. Regardless, I still think Bowyer gets a whopper of a penalty. There has to be discouragement of this happening again.
The more I think about it, the penaly should be at least 50 points. That's a whole race worth of points.

I agree...though I do like seeing Gordon miss the chase. I hate it for Newman given he's currently without a 2014 ride.93henfan wrote:I like Clint Bowyer, but you just can't throw the results in sports without a penalty, unless you're the Chinese Olympic team.ASUMountaineer wrote:Clint Bowyer is awesome!

If anyone wants Dover tickets for face value let me know. 2-3 tix available. $91 each. Top row, sect 101. I have a wedding to go to. Worst planning ever. The groom is in federal contracting like me. He knows that late Sep is crunch time for federal contracting officers and that several of the attendees are also DE people that go to the race. When does he schedule his wedding? Sunday, Sep 29. Fucking brilliant.

I think the best time to get married may be the NBA All Star weekend.
Re: NASCAR 2013 Discussion
NASCAR gets it mostly right.
They still should have given Bowyer a Chase penalty though.
They still should have given Bowyer a Chase penalty though.
CONCORD, N.C. -- Ryan Newman replaced Martin Truex Jr. in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship on Monday night when NASCAR penalized Michael Waltrip Racing for manipulating the outcome of last weekend's race at Richmond.
Michael Waltrip Racing was fined $300,000, and general manager Ty Norris received an indefinite suspension. Truex, Clint Bowyer and Brian Vickers were docked 50 points apiece -- but Bowyer's deduction does not affect his position in the Chase, which begins Sunday at Chicago.
"We penalize to not have this happen again," NASCAR president Mike Helton said. "It's a message from the league saying, 'You can't do this.'"

Re: NASCAR 2013 Discussion
Not right at all. How can you put Newman in and not Gordon. Newman was FAR from a lock to get in, wasn't he. Didn't he have to win to get in? Yes, he was leading, but IIRC, he wasn't leading by much. Gordon on the other hand was 2 spots clear of making it and distancing himself from the next place at the time of the spin. Logano was also the lead car on his lap, meaning he had nobody left he could pass to get any spots back. Gordon was a LOCK without the caution, Newman was not.93henfan wrote:NASCAR gets it mostly right.![]()
I understand that the loser by the decision was Truex who drives for the team that committed the foul, but if NASCAR is saying Newman was screwed, how can they not say Gordon was just as screwed?

Re: NASCAR 2013 Discussion
Like I said, they got it mostly right. Gordon is one thing they didn't get right, as is the lack of Chase penalty to Bowyer.89Hen wrote:Not right at all. How can you put Newman in and not Gordon. Re: NASCAR 2013 Discussion
The easy solution is to just add Gordon as #13. It's not like there's a bracket where you need an even number. NASCAR botched this one big time IMO.93henfan wrote:Like I said, they got it mostly right. I completely disagree. I am impressed with the backbone they had it getting it right for the most part.89Hen wrote:The easy solution is to just add Gordon as #13. It's not like there's a bracket where you need an even number. NASCAR botched this one big time IMO.93henfan wrote:

They could have just said "we have no way to prove that Bowyer intentionally spun" and done nothing. That's what would have happened in baseball or soccer.

I have no problem with them deciding Boyer spun intentionally, but it's an all or nothing IMO. They decided that Boyer spun intentionally. That means they need to put Newman and Gordon in. Period.93henfan wrote:I completely disagree. I am impressed with the backbone they had it getting it right for the most part.89Hen wrote: The easy solution is to just add Gordon as #13. I'd refute it by saying he had 26 races to finish two spots on the track better.89Hen wrote:Dislike him, but I don't think you can refute what I said.ASUMountaineer wrote:Poor Jeffy...

Re: NASCAR 2013 Discussion
More coming out last night. Might still see NASCAR put Gordon in.
http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup/st ... nter-chasePenske Racing may have cut a deal with Front Row Motorsports in the closing laps at Richmond for track position to help get Joey Logano in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.
In radio communications reviewed Wednesday by The Associated Press for Front Row driver David Gilliland, his spotter informs the team of a request to let Logano pass him in the final laps of Saturday night's race.
Logano was trying to claim a spot in the 12-driver Chase field. Both Penske and Front Row are Ford teams and thus considered partners.
Joey Logano has a chance to win this year's Sprint Cup trophy, but a report call into question the means used to get him into the 12-driver playoff.
A voice on the radio, believed to be crew chief Frank Kerr, asks whom the request is coming from. The spotter replies: "We've got the big dog and all his cronies."
Kerr then says: "Travis knows what I've been asking for," an apparent reference to Penske Racing competition director Travis Geisler.
Logano passed Gilliland on a restart and finished 22nd, one spot ahead of Gilliland and good enough for a berth in the Chase field.
