As a Charleston Southern fan, our modest history with only 1 conference championship prevents much trash talk, although I'm quite proud of our program going from club team in 1990, to D3 in 91, and to Division 1-AA overnight, skipping D2 altogether, and building since then from a very bad team, to a competitive one, to now where we are a middle of the road Big South team. Hardly striking fear into the hearts of the 1-AA powers....BUT, holding our own for a small commuter school. And after our huge upset win over The Citadel last week, we play a D2 team this week in Shorter, who will play tough, as CSU only beat them by 3 last year. What a great start it would be for CSU with a new head coach to go 2-0 and have Campbell and Norfolk St coming up before going to App State. Being 4-0 going to ASU would be awesome
But it's a great day for football. I really am interested in the Wofford vs Citadel game. The SoCon title will hinge a lot on this one. Im attending CSU vs Shorter right now (kicked off at 11) and then heading to the Citadel game. Should be fun!
Great football day! Hope Charleston Southern goes to 2-0

It wasn't quite the convincing win over Shorter that I was hoping for. The first half was great. We got out to a great lead then we kind of sputtered in the second half. Shorter is a pretty good D2 team, but it still should have been a win for us and probably should have been an easier win than it was.
I'm thankful for the win and the 2-0 start, nonetheless.
It is amazing that a 4-0 start is within reason. It won't be easy, but it is possible. Toughness will be key, mental and physical. I think this team with the new energy, passion, and desire can do it. I like the early identity of this team and this football program. GO BUCS!!!

You should've beaten Shorter. They are D-II. Good win, but it won't help you.
Hey, you have a better record than El Cid. ha ha

Don't think Shorter is one of them but it depends on the D-II. A few years back I did a search of games over either a 5 or 10 year period between I-AA/FCS playoff teams and D-II playoff teams when they played each other during the regular season and my recollection is the D-II playoff teams won about a third of such matchups. There have been two instances in history where the eventual D-II champ played the eventual I-AA national champ and it was a split with the D-II champ winning one and the I-AA champ winning one. Both were close games.ou should've beaten Shorter. They are D-II. Good win, but it won't help you.
One I always like to point to is an instance involving Florida Atlantic in 2003. Florida Atlantic made the I-AA semifinals that year but during the regular season they were punked 45-17 by D-II playoff team Valdosta State.
It's one of my pet peeves about the NCAA selection process. Like McNeese beat the snot out of Arkansas Pine Bluff this past weekend and if it comes to it they'll get credit for that as a "Division I" win. But they're going to play a much tougher opponent this week in West Alabama, the defending Gulf South Conference Champion with a bunch of people back and transfers from big time schools like Auburn and Tennessee. I watched the replay of their game today and they've got athletes. A lot of speed. They're probably better than most FCS teams and the game is not a "gimme" at all. But to the NCAA selection committee at the end of the year it'll be a "D-II game."
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

What is the problem with CSU and D-2 teams? Seems to always be close.

I believe the tongue was firmly attached in cheek for the last poster based on Saturday's thriller in Lexington.

Same disease that infects South Carolina every time they play Wofford or Vanderbelt or Kentucky. Playing DOWN to the level of your opponent.
