We're talking FLAGS here.

So you're ok with the head of a US consulate flying any flag he wants to fly?
A flag is just a sign that waves around. You wouldn't care if it was a hanging poster instead?

And as long as its message is an extension of the society it represents, I'm fine with it. In this case, it represents the US' solidarity for human rights around the world.

In some people's opinion it represents that...

And many would argue that the Gadsen flag or a pro life flag represent a larger as you put it 'extension of society' than the pro gay flag. And either one could be argued to as you put it 'represent solidarity for human rights'.

So you're ok with US govt buildings flying pro gay flags. Are you ok with govt buildings flying the pro Tea Party Gadsen flag or a pro life flag?

Yes, if pro-life was a stance that represents our institution as a collective. But it doesn't. On the other hand, equal rights for all mankind is something that does represent our ideals.

I wouldn't care if the Gadsen flag was flown. I'd actually encourage it as a reminder to question and critique the government at all times - an essential detail of our largely successful society.

One mans civil right to life is another mans "equal rights for all mankind" talking point.

A pro gay flag doesn't represent out institution as a collective. Nor does it signal equal rights for all mankind.

Yep. Which is why US govt buildings shouldn't be taking political stances by flying any other flag than the US flag.
