Stadium Naming Rights
How many schools have sold the naming rights for their football, basketball, or hockey stadiums? A recent opinion piece in the UMass Daily Collegian raises the issue as the economy puts a hurt on the athletic budget...

I say why not...what's your opinion????

Re: Stadium Naming Rights
I do not mind the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Especially living in RI it just doesn't stand out as being weird or out of place. Plus it has one of the best nick names. The Dunk.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:some are fine... i dont really object, esp if named after alums... but

Albany's Recreation and Convocation Center (RACC) was renamed the SEFCU Arena (State Employees Federal Credit Union) for $250K per year.
I wouldn't care if the the football stadium was named the Harvey Milk Memorial Waste Management Inc. Stadium if the money got us a real stadium.

Re: Stadium Naming Rights
JMU named the football field after a benefactor, Zane Showker (started SYSCO food services of VA and donated tons of money to JMU and Harrisonburg prior to his death). Don't think they've sold the rights to name any other arena or sports venue on campus... hopefully the renovations to the stadium won't push them in that direction.

Re: Stadium Naming Rights
Brooks Stadium is named for Bob Brooks who brought us Hooters, Naturally Fresh and a $3.5 million gift to the new football program.
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17

Re: Stadium Naming Rights
surprisingly it is just known as the dunk and not the donut hole... And you have to admit, for a basketball arena. The Dunk is a good name.

Re: Stadium Naming Rights
Johnny Unitas Stadium is known as "The U" on campus. He was the chairman of the fund raising committe to upgrade the stadium. And was looking for someone to buy the naming rights to it when he died. Towson asked his wife if it would be alright with her if they named the new stadium after him.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Re: Stadium Naming Rights
The Carrier Dome would be a more acceptable name if the building actually had an air conditioning system.

I'm all for it. Schools need the money. If it helps finish stadium building at Texas State then do it.
