People have short memories. It was $1.59 in Christmas 2008 and 88 cents/gallon in Feb 1999. They don't make these numbers up. California seems to always be higher than everywhere else and I remember people rejoicing in 99 when I lived there when gas got back below $1/gal.

Does anyone know if the mandate date was part of the law approved by Congress and signed by the President or was the date an arbitrary date picked by HHS when writing the rules to implement the law? If it was the former can the president just ignore the law?

Gas is cheaper here, I just don't remember.

That video is from Aiken. Charleston is usually more expensive. I filled up for $.20 cheaper in Columbia on Sunday than I could've in Charleston.

A pretty good synopsis of effective dates under the plan.

Would it matter? As I see it Obama is a law unto himself and will do whatever seems best for him. The rest of us be damned.

I know. It was a serious question but I know the law doesn't apply to the Chosen One so it doesn't really matter. :x

Our system has its flaws as all healthcare systems do, but Obamacare is a change for the worse, and there is no amount of gussying you can put on it. Increased costs to the taxpayers, elevated costs, and almost zero choice. Precisely the opposite situation that was sold to the public.

Single payer systems around the world are in a state if virtual collapse. The only question I have is:

Why do you have such faith that our government can do it better?

Sent from the center of the universe.

I'm no fan of Obamacare either but one could make the argument that our system is in a state of collapse as well. It's not as if our for-profit insurance companies are highly efficient and keep costs down.
But when consumer costs ultimately go up in the aggregate, and employers adjust their numbers downward to avoid penalties... where's the benefit of Obamacare?

There is no logic in intentionally making our existing system worse. People can not say they weren't warned. Like Nancy said, "You've got to pass it to find out what's in it."
