To a baseball purist, it sounds like a pretty shittie baseball game to me. If you want to see scores in the twenties and errors in the double digits, there's a local little league game you can watch.catamount man wrote:Western Carolina beat Eastern Kentucky tonight in Cullowhee in a game lasting 5 hours, a combined 12 errors and a final score of 24-23!!!!!!!!!!

I remember that game fondly, mostly because I was a huge Mike Schmidt fan as a kid. If I remember correctly, he had a pretty big day that day.

There were a couple of notable Phillies - Cubs Wrigley field match ups and Schmidt figured prominently in both:SunCoastBlueHen wrote:BlueHen86 wrote:May 17, 1979

From Wikipedia:
April 17, 1976: With a strong prevailing southerly breeze, the Cubs take a 13-2 lead over the Phillies through 4 innings, only to finally lose 18-16 in 10 innings, as the Phils tie the NL record for the largest lead overcome. Tied at 15-15, the Phils score three in the 10th, partly on the strength of Mike Schmidt's 4th home run of the game, and the Cubs are only able to come back with one in their half of the 10th. This allows the Phils to tie the National League record for largest deficit overcome (11 runs).
May 17, 1979: In another windblown game with the Phillies, the Phils take a large lead only to have the Cubs catch them in the late innings. However, Schmidt does the Cubs in again, hitting a homer (his second of the day) in the 10th (off Bruce Sutter) to give the Phillies a 23-22 win. Dave Kingman hits three homers that day in a losing cause.
I remember the 1979 game well. It was Pete Rose's first year with the Phils. The win gave the Phils a 14-6 record and first place. The bullpen seemed to never recover from this game and the Phils never really challenged for the division afterwards and finished 4th.

There could be 100 runs scored in the GSU-Western series. Gonna be exciting.
