Absolutely not asleep, I just have different sense of perspective than some others with different agendas and different partisan tendencies.

Instead, he appoints a Republican friend.
This isn't a very informed statement. What Christie did has been seen as a slap at the Republicans: he appointed a placeholder, a relative unknown who ISN'T going to run, in a special election that gives little time for another Republican to get his face out there in a decidedly Democratic landscape.

He could have appointed a more well known politician, one who would run in the election, and then not called a special election and let the appointee finish out the term, allowing him to build an incumbent record.

You people are kidding me right? The great thing about Christie that makes him different than other politicians today is he doesn't answer to parties or ideology - he answers to the people.

When Sandy hit he could have gave a flying f*** what the conservative GOP's thought about him & Obama together in efforts to rebuild the Jersey Shore.

Yesterday he said it's up to the people of New Jersey to decide who represents them - so he appoints a capable guy to hold the office & represent Jersey for basically 120 days, and in October there will be an elected Senator from NJ in Washington to represent them.

The guy is refreshing & IMO is a shoo-in for our next POTUS.

Don't underestimate the power of the people with their hands extended for a freebie. They are many and they vote. If we go another 8 years under Donk control, the makers will be so outnumbered by the takers that the US will be in an unrecoverable situation.

I agree with what you said and agree with the theory that a core Conservative GOP President will be unelectable in both 2016 & the forseeable future. The biggest challenge for the GOP is to evolve in the next two years & put their machine behind an electable candidate like Christie.

New Orleans, Tuscaloosa, Oklahoma, WC fires, etc. All takers too.
I'm OK with those takers to a certain degree. It's the ones that take everyday that are the problem.

 Don't worry. You guys are right. I think Christie did the right thing by placing someone in there until an election can take place in November. He isn't circumventing the voters.

Let's see here...

Security State: Status quo if not further to the right
Prosecution of Wall Street and serious banking reform: zero, zilch, nada, status quo
Deportation of illegals: increased
War on Drugs: Status quo if not increased busts of pot shops
War on Terror: Status quo + increased use of drones
Taxes: A few minor increases but so did Bush 1, Reagan, and Clinton
Obamacare: corporatist driven and mimicked Romneycare
Corporatism: Panders to monopolies and entrenched power, status quo.

I can't continuously be there to hold your hands fellas. :tothehand:

Obamacare, just this past March:

"Tax Prof: ObamaCare Tax Increases Are Double Original Estimate

The Joint Committee on Taxation recently released a 96 page report on the tax provisions associated with Affordable Care Act. The report describes the 21 tax increases included in Obamacare, totaling $1.058 trillion – a steep increase from initial assessment, according to the Tax Prof Blog. The summer 2012 estimate is nearly twice the $569 billion estimate produced at the time of the passage of the law in March 2010. (see chartunder link):

CBO on Fiscal Cliff Deal: $1 in Spending Cuts ($15 Billion) for Every $41 in Tax Increases ($620 Billion)

The Senate early this morning passed H.R. 8 by a vote of 89-8 to avert the fiscal cliff. The bill now moves to the House. Highlights of the bill include:
*Raise the marginal tax rate to 39.6% on income over $450,000 (joint) and $400,000 (single).
*Raise the tax rate on dividends and long term capital gains to 20% on taxpayers with income over $450,000 (joint) and $400,000 (single). The top rate would remain 15% for taxpayers with lower incomes.
*Estate and gift tax: $5 million exemption (inflation-adjusted) and 40% rate.
*Permanent and retroactive patch for the AMT.
*Return of the exemption and itemized deduction phase-outs on taxpayers with income over $300,000 (joint) and $250,000 (single).
*One-year extension of 50% bonus depreciation.
*Extension of various tax extenders.
