Re: NDSU 2009 schedule
to say there are bad feelings between the two schools at all levels in an understatement.dbackjon wrote:Why don't you schedule UND?
when NDSU committed to moving up UND pulled the plug on the games and refused to schedule the Bison. SU tried to get them to move up along with No. Colo USD and SDSU 5 teams together looking for a conference (and making the great west stable and capable of and AQ)
but UND balked at this (including their president literally calling a press conference to mock the decision and university) because they get the joy of the hockey double standard. until NDSU started making national headlines and getting huge exposure (wins over wisc. and marquette in hoops and football over CMU, Ball and Minn) When the Bison found a conference and success and prestige... then UND went johnny-come-lately and moved up.
the bad blood remains... and NDSU is trying to "move on" past the old and petty rivalry with the U. I suspect that it's a matter of when, not if, we play them again, but there is a strong undercurrent within the NDSU community that advocate for being "done" with UND.

I understand the animosity.
Of course the true screw up was the whole NCC not moving up in the 90's. Would have long had AQ's in all sports by now.

Nebraska legislature forbade UNO from moving up.
U of MN put a TON of pressure on to keep Mankato, Duluth and St. Cloud in D-II but the tradeoff was that Mankato could add D-I hockey.

Re: NDSU 2009 schedule
MN will eventually be pressured in to bringing it back... either us... or frankly more likley... UND because of their hockey rivalry... (who knows if UND will take it... but they likely will)Ivytalk wrote:So Minnesota wussed out?
Minnesota's coach said it was "beneath them" which fueled the ire that led to the 07 win for SU.
I'd like to see us get Nebraska at some point, given Bohl's time there as an assistant.

Both stupid and short-sighted on their parts.

Re: NDSU 2009 schedule
both states seem inclined to take the Wyoming approach... which is stupid IMO... the recruiting pool for D-I talent in MN is described as "thin" but i dont buy it. look at the rosters of XDSU and UXD schools as well as UNI and the rest of the Big Ten... Minn just can't recruit against anyone it seems and they don't want any more competition.dbackjon wrote:TwinTownBisonFan wrote:

Of course, in Wyoming, there IS only one four year collegeTwinTownBisonFan wrote:both states seem inclined to take the Wyoming approach... which is stupid IMO... the recruiting pool for D-I talent in MN is described as "thin" but i dont buy it. look at the rosters of XDSU and UXD schools as well as UNI and the rest of the Big Ten... Re: NDSU 2009 schedule
Looks like a good schedule TTBF. Good info. too although I've seen a lot of it from the other NDSU peeps, just with a lot more emotional disarray over the issue. It seems like it would be tough for NDSU not to schedule UND in the coming years due to the proximity and the amount of excitement (nervous, angry, gleeful or whatever kind it might be) that the game would bring. If UND starts making some noise at this level then I think you will see NDSU's fans change their minds about playing them. NDSU fans won't like UND getting the same kind of attention they got and will want to prove that they are a better team.

I think not growing up in ND and not growing up in the rivalry gives me a little more perspective and hopefully a cooler head about it all. the petty nature of the rivalry (in a lot of ways) serves to cheapen it. it could be the regions version of Ohio State/Michigan but it ends up being played out in funding fights in Bismarck (really... and it's insane to let a football rivalry spill over in to politics beyond prop bets between mayors) which fuels more bad blood than is reasonable

Re: NDSU 2009 schedule
if you ask me this is a pretty rough schedule and nobody has mentioned the first 3 games are ALL away against quality competition...which could easily put us in a 0-3 hole before we even play a home game. I hope Coach Bohl will get these boys ready....especially mertens.

Iowa State is not quality competition.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

its still FBS and yes this will be a game where either team could win but again its their home field advantage.D1B wrote:NDSUFREAK wrote:if you ask me this is a pretty rough schedule and nobody has mentioned the first 3 games are ALL away against quality competition...which could easily put us in a 0-3 hole before we even play a home game. I would like to see NDSU and Weber play again, the first 2 times the 2 teams met the Bison Stampeded all over the Wildcats, I think it would be a different story now, It sure would make for an interesting matchup.

I'm toying with the idea of going to the Oct 10 game with my sons (who will be 8 & 10 at that time). What can I expect if I do make it to Fargo?TwinTownBisonFan wrote:Sep 03 at Iowa State

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

if you can swing a hotel room at the hotel donaldson, i recommend it.
not a bad seat at the dome IIRC - if your inclined space aliens is a great place to take the boys for dinner (the food is good barbecue and the like, there's good drinks for dad, and arcade games)
