Former Griz Asst. Coach Shalon Baker Arrested for Assault

Baker allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend earlier this morning. His contract with the Griz ended in January and he is/was supposedly going to do an internship with the Seahawks this coming season. He's apparently employed at a Missoula liquor store at present.

Baker played for UM from 1991-94 and held Montana's career receiving yardage record at one point in 1994, I believe (Scott Gurnsey finished ahead of him at the end of '94, though—Matt Wells then broke the record in 1995, and Marc Mariani again in 2009). Baker also played 10 combined years in the CFL and Arena League and was named the CFL's Rookie of the Year in 1995.

I met him a few years ago, and he seemed like a great guy.

Things definitely went downhill for him after Pflu was fired. I don't think he gelled at all with the new staff, and it showed. Looks like things have spiraled out of control since then.

Scumbag way to end your coaching career, though. What a loser.

Very sad, indeed. I enjoyed watching the little "Touchdown Maker" back in the day.
